They are vaguely deco contemporary, and I call the era disco-deco for lack of a better term. Maurice Villency does do contract furniture so these chairs may have been contract, although people do buy contract-grade furniture for residential. They are probably very sturdy if built for the contract market, and worth the money if you like them--and better quality than the World Market chair. Not criticizing the World Market chair but dollar for dollar you are getting better quality with the Maurice Villency.

I want to also thank everyone as we have been running around like chickens without heads trying to find bar stools for our redo. similar problems too as our cabs are cherry, floors are dark (ipe) counters are typhoon bordeaux, dining table and chairs are all cherry and LR couches are off whie leather. all three rooms open to one another and I realized if I just realized if I went with wood, it would be wood heaven in there. we also just decided we didn't want backs on the stools. we also want our stools to swivel, otherwise I'd have gone with the matching stools. arcy-when we spoke of a variety of foul creatures, i thought instantly of big bang! lol so to be safe lets add - bring broom stick pound down all furnishings before moving. lol mamap - at one time i would have believed you, but my experience proved that was not so. It was,as so often is, a warm florida afternoon when i was trying on the lovely cashmere sweater. I know that noone touched me, it was not 5 minutes , before the next sweater, that i was itching like mad. I thought it was because the clothes were making me hot, sweaty, and itchy. don't know why it stood out so in my brain but it does. oh that couch reminds me of a lovely high back bench i have. it is walnut - i had never seen that wood before, and i bought for $5 straight off the neighbor's porch. with the bird poop and horse hair included. i adore it.

Thanks everyone for your help. I appreciate getting the low-down on the different price points and quality. I stopped at PB on Sat to look at drapes. I spoke with an associate about barstools. They didn’t have upholstered ones on display, but they had the chair versions. They were comfortable and nice but I wasn’t thrilled with their wood either...and those chairs were on sale for about $650.+ tax + delivery. Yeah, I had seen the C&B leather ones online. A good price point and seems like an excellent value. But for me the look feels too contemporary for my bungalow. (Also, ‘cuz I’m a vegetarian, I try to avoid leather if there is a reasonable alternative. Obviously, no one here would know that). A lot of rattan ones are cute but I want upholstered counter stools. On Sun a friend stopped over and looked at the whole room (Outside, from the french doors, lol) and thought the stools looked good with everything else. (Previously she gave the thumbs down to things she thought didn’t work). She thought the solid blue looked good with the Blue and white statement backsplash, and that the light colored wood legs gave a bit of beachy feel. I also have a cute little bistro set in the nook, so I don’t need everything to be the focal point. So I think I’m going to call it a day and keep these for now. It’s been a long year and I‘m not excited about spending $2000+ for a pair of counter stools. Maybe if I get sick of these in a couple of years, I can spring for new one and sell these on craigslist, Thanks again! Onward! (Time to finish hanging the art in my house).
