Comments (4)Yes, it's a sport. During the forming of the bud something caused a small genetic mutation to occur and the resulting bloom is two colors instead of one. This type of sport is rarely stable and can't be propagated. Some sports that happen can be because the genetic mutation is further up the line. If you take a cutting of the sporting cane and root it and it reproduces the different bloom then it is a stable sport and a new variety. Sports happen more frequently than you think and have resulted in many new varieties. Keep watching your roses and you'll find other examples I'm sure....See MoreI'm sure half and half will not look good!
Comments (4)Thyme needs full sun, excellent drainage and almost no water after establishment. And as long as you select the correct type - a very flat or creeping thyme - it never gets unruly or requires trimming. For a full sun location with those qualifiers, it would be my first choice....and it looks great with paving or rocks. Another choice is Veronica peduncularis 'Georgia Blue' but that will need regular water and does get some height and ranginess to it. FWIW, the 'full sun' tag for the vinca was just wrong!! It can take partial sun (morning preferred) and varying degrees of shade to almost full shade. Its growth is very slow in full sun and the foliage tends to bleach out and look anemic....See MoreHalf vent, half "is there a polite way to say..."
Comments (51)Oh man! Thanks for all the laughs, people 😆 Cringeworthy is putting it mildly. I also have eaten while on Zoom - with camera off. It was with family, and they were asking me to turn the camera on, and I refused until I was finished, and told them why. I am very conscious of how I am appearing on camera and do try to be as considerate as possible. It's very hard not to look at oneself, IMPE. It's funny, but at the last work meeting on Zoom, I realized I was the only one who was showing any expression in response to what was being said, the others were rigidly staring intently at their screens. I think a lot of people are just not that aware of how they are appear to others, and then there's the sad truth that not everyone has the advantage of knowing proper etiquette - business or otherwise. It's not something people are born knowing instinctively. Oh, and over the past 2 years I bought a folding screen and a clothing rack with the idea either could be used as backgrounds on video conferencing. The clothing rack would have fabric draped over it....See MoreHalf on, half off string of Christmas lights on tree
Comments (20)I have a dislike for those LED bulbs. They are so cold and harsh. Havent used them in some years and that is one reason. Hubs would turn them on and I always turned them off when he was not around. But, at this point I am not going to replace them with the ones that are said to minic the old ones. It is not worth it, to me. I have a very large round form that i used to fill out with real branches and string it and decorate it just as you would a tree. I would go over to the tree place and get the free trimmings that they were burning. It was viewable from both sides and I hung it between two living spaces. I loved it because it did not involve moving the sofa and taking up valuable real estate in the living room. Then, life changed and I didnt do it anymore, but, decided last year that I would give it a go again. The world seemed like it needed some light. The problem I had was that there are no tree sellers around anymore here where I live. I searched up and down the major roadways and there is not one where there used to be plenty a few years ago. There is one entertainment "farm" close but they charge you an entrance fee just to drive in! No, thanks. Another farm seller that we actually have some connection to did not do the trees these last few years. Some parts of the country may be different from this. But, here the tree sellers are no more. I did see that in the last years of it that they had a lot of left over trees. Maybe more are using artificial ones now?...See More- 14 years ago
