Well...I'll give this a shot -

1st - Butternut Squash Soup

2nd - Bruschetta of fresh tomatoes and fresh basil; olives, and hot artichoke dip and an Apricot Sour

3rd - Seafood and fish platter, scallops, shrimp, salmon, more scallops, lobster with scalloped tomatoes, new potatoes, and mixed greens (with EVOO, cider vinegar, and maple syrup)

4th - Chopped salad with blue cheese dressing

5th - homemade peach ice cream

6th - fruit platter of watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, navel oranges and Honeybells
plus some good cheeses

dcarch I'm with you. I would need many options. Narrowing it down is proving to be nearly impossible.

Teresa I'm impressed with your clarity on what you would choose. Man that platter of fruit sounds sublime.

If I had to I could trim the options down to pizza, ice cream and wine as my food groups anyway:)

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I think I'd want my last meal to be my ultimate comfort food... A huge bowl of thin spaghetti with butter and salt.

I always thought of this kind of question as a "death row" kind of topic. In which case, Teresa and I must be cellmates. I'll have what she is having, but please add soft shell crabs to the menu. And a kicka$$ wine.

Gosh, I have so many foods I love, but what I crave any given time depends on my mood. Even if I could have as much variety as I wanted, eating just one bight of all would fill me up way, way before I got through the list!

Sometimes, the wonderful crunchy green flavor of Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce is the ultimate in pleasure, sometimes the crisp-and-squish of a fried, whole belly Eastern clam. Thinly sliced, grilled tri tip vs. a thick slab of prime rib? Warm, crusty baguette with aged triple cream brie or a grilled cheese sandwich on rye? Oxtails, stewed tender enough that the meat comes off the bone so clean they look like the pieces of a skeleton-puzzle from The Nature Store or sweetbreads with truffles? Dense, dark chocolate truffle torte with a raspberry puree or a rich, Meyer lemon custard tart...or a sun warm peach, just off the tree, so ripe that it almost bursts under your teeth and you're more worried about losing the juice than about it staining your blouse?

Oh Lord. I just can't do it.

I've been thinking about this all day and keep coming back to my ultimate comfort food...homemade tortillas dripping with butter and homemade refried beans...simple. And a variety of the freshest ripest fruit.

I asked my husband and he said a Canadian steak (?) and buffalo wings, lol.

Intersting. I'll be hanging out behind Duane too.... but for snacks while I am there (assuming it is snowing like it is now, summer is another list altogether). This also doesn;t assume I am going to finish an of these courses, but I do want a taste of each:

1st - Sterlet Caviar on blini with creme fraiche. Frozen Ultimat vodka.

2dn - NE Clam Chowder, rich with corn and potatoes. LaBatts Blue.

3rd - Bruschetta of fresh tomatoes and fresh basil; Chopped salad with blue cheese dressing. Sipping a Sauvignon Blanc.

4th - Surf & Turf - Steamed Lobster with drawn butter and a perfectly done Steak au Poivre with a hunk of Filet. A saute of broccoli and red peppers in olive oil and garlic. Stuffed Baked Potato topped with more creme fraiche, chives and roasted garlic puree. A fabulous Bordeaux.

5th - Chocolate Raspberry Ganache cake with whipped cream, raspberry puree and fresh berries. Continuing the Bordeaux

6th - Roederer Brut Premier

7th - Stilton with pears, a Tawny Port, Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Gran Reserve

I'm sorry if this thread has been done before. I am relatively new to the Cooking Forum and probably not very up to speed on what has already been covered.

Having said that I'm really enjoying reading what dishes you all hold dear:) I was reading an article about deep fried Twinkies last night and although I've never had one that way before I would like to give it a shot sometime. So add that to my list:)

These kind of posts are always fun to read...no matter how often they are posted, Kate.

I would start with a delicious Mexican salad: Romaine lettuce, pinto beans, tender shredded pork, salsa, sour cream, corn relish, shredded cheddar and crumbled tortilla chips, with a chipotle dressing.

I will take a Filet Oscar next...with a ton of the Oscar part. And some crab on the side that someone else has removed from the legs. Plenty of drawn butter.

Next, hand me a plate of "party hash" from the Hash House here in Vegas. It's homemade with corned beef, ham, chicken, mushrooms, onions and peppers. Put a couple of over medium egg yolks on top. Yes...just the yolks...if it's my last meal, what the heck? Two slices of wheat toast with tomato preserves and butter will be nice.

I would also like some of Bobby Flay's Country Captain chicken. I will help my son make it, since we always make it together.

For dessert...since I am too full right now to eat much more, I would love a chocolate molten cake, with fresh raspberries and whipped cream. Not one of the little one serving size ones though. Give me a huge one.

Kate, I've been here for about ten years and this topic comes up periodically. I find my response always varies so I think it is a worthy query no matter how often it is asked.

Frankly, I think I'd be worrying about something other than food if my very last anything was close at hand. But if food was on my mind I'd seriously consider Alexa's menu as long as I could have my favorite people at the table with me. :)

I might have to starve myself for a couple days to be hungry enough to eat this, but I'd have:

shrimp with cheese grits
macaroni & cheese
candied yams
buttermilk cornbread
hot, fresh biscuits with maple syrup
green beans cooked southern style (i.e., NOT crispy) with sliced white potatoes
And for dessert-- sweet potato pie, 5 flavor pound cake, and dulce de leche ice cream

I was thinking about this today during my morning walk, and I think I just stunned myself with what I came up with: nothing. I'd probably fast. And I have no idea why I came up with that answer. The only other thing that sounded about right for me was a perfectly ripe melon.

If we have to pay for it, I'm outta luck! If the bill is being footed by someone else (i.e. taxpayers), I guess I'd splurge. My son would have to be with me. He's my dinner buddy! He gets to leave before anything bad happens (whatever makes it the "last meal"). And how long does it get to last? I hope long enough to rest some!

1) Vodka martini (chilled, straightup with a lemon twist), at least Belvedere, Chopin, etc. with salted almonds and sexy jazz playing, Diana Krall, Frank, Ella, all of them.

2) 3 cups of soup and Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio; the grilled chicken and rice soup from Demo's on 2nd Avenue in Nashville or in Murfreesboro; Crab bisque; and some chowder with potatoes, like the flounder chowder we had in Florida.

3) Artichokes three ways. Grilled, steamed and fried, with hollandaise and any wine. I am not picky ;) (Although it can be a challenge to match up wine with artichokes (or asparagus) I would try it nonetheless). A huge pile. At least three pounds of it.

4) Good pumpernickel bread, slatered with butter, a huge glass of Gerst, and oompa music in the background

5) Surf and turf. Sparkling wine/champagne, Gruet would work. Dom would be better. Chopin playing this time instead of being consumed. Seared scallops, Dungeness crabs, drawn butter, and either really good prime rib or a filet served oscar-style to continue along #3's theme. Maybe some jalapeno creamed corn, or my mom's.

6) Dessert is way too hard for me. I love it all. My downfall is sweets. Cappuccino. Michael Buble. A slice of buttercake with blackberry filling and a lemoncream frosting. Another slice of chocolate cake with some sort of ganache. Another molten lava cake. Coconut macaroons. Huge platter of that. Enough to last another 40-50 years.

Kate, we do have this thread periodically and I'm another one of those people who always choose something different. My responses depend on the day, I think, so it's always kind of fun to read the responses of new people and of old posters.

Unfortunately, my tummy has been in a state of minor mutiny since Saturday and so nothing at all sounds good except gingerale and that's not a fit last meal.

I don't like any wine, liquor, mixed drinks or beer, so none of those things would be on my final menu, I can at least tell you what I wouldn't have!

I'll also have some fettucine alfredo, a smorgasboard of cheeses, and some good Chicken Biryani, and Chicken Vera Cruz. Seems to be a pattern here. For dessert I'll have plain New York cheesecake and some glazed doughnuts.
