How do you 'work' in the garden? Do you use a potting bench?
Comments (21)Dee, I like your idea of putting all the small tools in a five gallon bucket and bringing it with you. I think I am going to try my version of that with a two wheeler and a small beach umbrella. I like bringing shade with me and having a two wheeler to move something if I need it. I also have a way of using the 5 gallon bucket as a work surface while sitting on a riding seat. I had fun putting the whole thing together too. Had lots of places to put things like my water bottle, etc. I did that two summers ago and I forget what happened that I didn't last year. I could move into one of those sheds tomorrow too Dee. Might make a nice get away, right in the backyard. Bring out a cooler and a comfortable chair, a few gardening magazines...make a day of it. :-) Linda, the umbrella is a nice idea when you have to use a space that is too sunny and it helps when it rains to keep things dry if you haven't got any cover. I also made a decision to try using the garage for one season and clear out an area that would be the same size as a small shed and see how it works before I commit to having a shed. sooey, you sound pretty organized to me! pm2...See MoreStructural Garage Floors
Comments (46)It’s been 5+ years, guess it’s time for an update! After several winters we have not had water from vehicles parked in the garage leak down into the room below. There has been some minor leakage from between the footing and foundation wall in a couple of spots - these were taken care of by managing downspouts and having a foundation crack repair company come in and do some injection sealing at the trouble joints. Otherwise all dry. Our garage floor is pitched properly to the outside (garage opening). The room below has been critical for storage. Part of it is kind of a theater/hangout, but it’s not finished yet. I had to coat the damp proofing with shellac-based primer to seal in the odor from that. Sucks we didn’t know we were doing this room from the beginning of our house construction otherwise I wouldn’t have applied tar to those two (what became) interior walls. It’s sealed up pretty good now though. One thing for anyone to think about it they do this is moisture and radon control. We have a dehumidifier in this room that runs, not a crazy amount but a decent amount. Radon levels are moderately elevated, so I am working to incorporate mitigation now. Again should’ve been included as part of the new build in 2013-2014 (our builder sucked). A few pics of the construction, where you can see structural floor components. I helped with the installation of rebar and chairs (the latter were made by my dad, who was a welding foreman). Great experience all around. I’ll post some additional pics of the garage floor and the room below as well....See Morewooden garden shed - gravel or timber foundation
Comments (3)Somewhat depends on your soil conditions. If sandy and well draining, you could put the timbers on the ground. If the soil has lots of clay and doesn't drain well, the gravel would be in order. I build a 8x12 shed with a regular floor system (rim joists and floor joists) on top of 3 rows of railroad ties. I did put in a couple of inches of sand underneath the ties for drainage even though ties are heavily treated. Also made leveling much easier....See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums!X-Post
Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See Morebrickeyee
