the units led flashes 5 times, then pauses. by the way, this is a yellow led, if that matters. anyway, again this is the second unit i have wired in this location, and it did accept remotes and keypads prior to being installed here. this is a 2 car garage with a unit on each side for separate doors. the unit on the other side works fine. the wiring "harness" that houses the bell wire for the wall switch, contains the following colored wires. 1)orange, white with orange stripe, 2)blue, white with blue stripe, 2)green, white with green stripe. on the unit working properly, the blue combo is used, on the unit not working, the orange combo is used, and the others not. does this make a difference?

If the only way into your garage is the main garage door I would recommend you call a door technician. They can usually drill a small hole and snare the rope for the manual release. They can then install a keyed release in this hole in case of future problems. They could also repair or replace your opener at the same time.

There is a problem where a remote will quit rolling the code and will cause the problem you have. You can usually tell which one it is because it is the one that will not work with the keypad and the other one will. But----you say your keypad is also not working. Try programming the keypad again and make sure you press and immediately release the learn button on the motor unit.

Actually, I am finding that the top part of the controller may be causing my problem also. I have removed the cover off the top part of the controller to see if that is the problem. There are two tabs on the top of the controller cover that you need to depress in order to remove the cover. It has been about three days now since I removed it and I have had no phantom openings. You can still use the controller. You will see a small blue or green button when you remove the cover. One of the Sears repair persons told me to try that first. If that doesn't solve the problem, then the problem is in the wiring (Staple or something shorting out)and would then have to replace the wiring.
