Hmm....didn't even know they amde glass lids...all my pots have cast iron lids.

Dang- I was hoping they were going to give me a free lid that can go in a really hot oven. I have to say, I don't think my le creuset was worth what I spent. It is stained and nasty and won't come clean.

The more stains on Le Creuset, the more it shows you use it. Think of it as a patina or distress marks on old furniture! (grin - From someone who has a couple of white Le Creusets along with the orange and blue, though it's tough to tell).

I thought that was the beauty of Le Creuset.......that they can go in a hot oven, that the handles will withstand the heat. Good to know!

I have a Rachael Ray oval one, and the lid is only good to 350* because of the type of handle.

OTOH Kitchen Aid cast-iron pots and lids are good to 500 degrees, so I use that for my no-knead bread.

Hey Teresa, I agree with you ALL the time! :-)

The short answer is that they're officially only rated to 450. (This is the knobs, not the handles or the whole lid-- what I said was confusing). I think if you preheat the oven well and the coils are no longer orange, there's probably very little additional risk because the temperature of the knob would be changing slowly.

Another reason why I'm glad my el cheapo enameled cast iron pots came from Homegoods and Aldi. The lids fit just fine, too.
