Is 11,000 a good price for a Henredon dining table set?

My local store is offering me the Ashton court dining table with 8 chairs for 11,000 including shipping and tax. Is that a good price? I am getting the chippendale chairs and 2 arm chairs.

a lotta money, but if u/can afford it and love it, plus own it for oh so many years.
i prefer to change things so would not invest that much money.

I have owned cheap dining sets before and didnt love them. The dining table is a work of art. I think I will love it for a lot of years. I am wondering if this is a good deal or not?

I have the Henredon Cavalier line. I started buying it 2 years ago and just got my last piece 3 weeks ago. The first pieces were made and signed stateside, now it is all made in Columbia with a brass plate on the back of the furniture to that effect. The nightstand made in Columbia is inferior to the pieces made here, although the difference is subtle. I had to refuse the last piece because of dripping stain and dried glue in places where you could see it. On the large chest the keyhole hardware was crooked (my husband fixed it). I do love the look however but now I wish I had purchased it all at one time while it was still made here. The Cavalier line has been streamlined and much of the line has already been discontinued. You can call Henredon to verify but you can see now on the Henredon site that there are only basic pieces remaining. Of course you can always do as others have suggested and coordinate with other lines (Acquisitions) or brands. I have a Stickley Williamsburg dining room table and chairs that I got in NY at the factory store several years ago, I LOVE it. Stickley just seems to pay more attention to detail. The set is well used, needs little maintenance and looks new. Even now if I wanted to add to the set I would have no problem getting another matching piece. Stickley customer service is great. Thanks, everyone! I figured it would be crazy expensive to restore the whole thing (and I could cover it up with a tablecloth in the meantime). I don't have any reason to doubt the seller (it was originally his parents' set and passed down years ago), but it would be kind of funny if it were dog damage since, unfortunately, that is not exactly an extraordinary occurrence in my household. :) I'm going to check it out in person tomorrow. The whole set is priced at $1k, which seems like a pretty great price to me, even assuming I'll have to have the table refinished and the chairs reupholstered, etc. Thoughts? I may need to start a new thread at some point for tips on making my dining room not look like a furniture store, too, haha. Thanks again for all the advice! It's very much appreciated. backsweat: In the first one, there are two leaves, not shown so you are correct I could always buy a few more chairs. Max length would be 84" and our dining can't fit much larger. The second one with the sideboard is the one I think you are leaning towards or is it the Baker set you mean? The 2nd one has an odd configuation where the leaf is built-in. I got more pics on it and am now shying away from it. Seems one of the slats of the set of 5 chairs has a 2" piece missing and would need to be repaired, and the two other chairs are a squared back style. It just seems a bit too much of a mix-and-match for what she is charging. Also, DH and I were both slightly put off by the sheen that is showing up in her pics as compared to the first which has a more satiny look to it--then again it could be her camera. The sideboard is the lovely piece I think, but I'm supposed to be shopping for a dining set--but now I've seen the sideboards, I do want to squeeze one in. DH now wonders why I insisted on my built-in buffet, but that has the beverage refrigerator (paneled).... the eBay you posted, I think has a lovely dining table, it's the chairs I'm wondering about since I sat in some chipindale ones today with a very straight back and they were not at all comfortable--but I'm still watching it and hey, if I have nothering by Tues I might do a low ball bid and see what happens. Too bad nothing is showing up for you... There are some fabulous sets on the east coast--just saw a complete Bernhardt one sold with sideboard fro just over $1K. Great thing about Craigslist there is always something new. Just saw another SET with 8 chairs plus sideboard with table with 3 leaves to it for less than 1/2 of the price of the second. I'm going to try to check it out tomorrow and am trying not to get too excited.

I'd buy a nice semi-antique set (less than a hundred years old) for less than that and get something more interesting, but that's just me. If you love this set, that's what matters, but you're not investing. Henredon isn't going to grow more valuable.

My rule of thumb is: for a good brand, if it is more than 40% off MSRP, it is a good bargain. If it is more than 50% off, it is an excellent bargain. I bought my Henkel Harris dinning table and credenza at 45% off. I never regret my decision. They will last for the rest of my life, and maybe my children's. Every day when I pass by my dinning room (because I don't use it everyday), I feel happy. so it is well worth it.

I've purchased Kindel, Baker, Hickory Chair, Wildwood, Kingsdown, and Bernhardt furniture thorough Brenda and paid less than what my local store quoted. Never had a problem with their delivery service or customer service. Boyles has to collect sales tax for all out of state sales. However, prices are still below local prices.

Call Lexington Furniture Company in Kentucky lexfurniture.com. 859 254-5362. I have furniture on order with them right now, so I cannot speak to their delivery service. I'm told that their D&D delivery service is terrible, so I requested they use Sun Delivery. Costs an extra $100, so I hope it is worth it. They don't collect sales tax unless you are in KY. However, I do like the customer service at Boyles better.

My mom purchased a henredon dining set probably close to 30 years ago which i now how and trying to sell. But she paid $25,000 for it then. You get what you pay for! You can beat quality, some of the junk they sell today is just awful. Im sure you will love your new set and get many years out of it.

Furniture Brands which owns Hendredon is having some problems. Confirm that your retailer can get a set from Hendredon.
