This video clip was floating around the buying and selling homes Forum.

Thought it should make the rounds here too.

Here is a link that might be useful: SNL skit

What a great clip! I love Steve Martin anyway.

Seriously and sadly I have several friends who could really benefit from such simple books or magazines...They just don't 'get it'. They just don't seem to understand why it takes working every available chance to just make ends meet. They have lots of 'stuff' but are forever broke, and worried about making ends meet.

I 'know' it is to pay for the 'stuff' they couldn't afford.

I think the forum could maybe use some 'lightening up' so am bumping this up.

Enjoy!

So do you buy pots you don't need?

I was in Target and decided to take a look in housewares. The selection of really good looking bowls was impressive and most of them are cheaper than regular house plant pots. I think I'll be getting a few of them, and a diamond encrusted drill bit. I never thought to look at these bowls as potential pots. Thanks for the ideas!

Don't you feel any pressure to Buy American??
Q
Comments (52)
NO. I think the same way as ebse - my husband and i slog it out to make money, get no benefits for being responsible with money, just keep seeing our taxes shooting up and up as a reward for our hard work. So, I buy the best value for my money. I hate my old GE profile cook top and am waiting to get rid of it. My fridge is a sub-zero and pretty much every thing else in my kitchen is not american. BTW/ we have never owned an American car - but, our last european car was manufactured in South Carolina - so maybe that is not true, after all. I am american, but have worked for 12 years in a Japanese semi conductor company with huge operations and thousands of american employees in California. So, what is American and what is non-american anymore? This is a global economy whether we like it or not. So, I am always happy to buy the best quality for my money without any pressure to buy american. If some american companies suffer (especially in the auto sector), it is not because of our lack of support, it is because of the poor business strategies - and anyway, Congress is always there to bail them out with my tax $$$$. So, no worries, I am supporting them by working hard to pay my taxes :)

Aldi.. do you or don't you?

A new Aldi's just opened not far from us. There is another one on the other end of town but I had never shopped there. DH and I went in a few days after the madness of the grand opening wore off. It was ok but I would not buy meat there, mainly because I am very picky about where I do buy any meat when I do buy it. I had been told their chocolate is very good. My friend was right. They sell, for $1.99, large bars of very good Austrian and German chocolate. I would go back just for that. But not for much else. Maybe some fruit, and the breads and bakery items looked ok. We typically make only 1-2 grocery stops a week at our favorite regional store (Publix) and occasionally go to Fresh Market or Whole Foods. No Trader Joe's here, sadly.

Want House - Can't Afford Listing Price
Q

I'm a brand new, ink is still drying on my license agent. However I would like to add a point that has not been addressed. What about safety? I WILL not go show up at a house to meet a buyer I don't know without said buyer showing their face and meeting me at the office first. Now, that sounds paranoid and probably 99.9% of the time unnecessary. Now, after we meet and if they want to be prequalified I will show them all the houses they want to see. If they don't want to do that and need to feel more comfortable with me before doing that I will show them one house. They still will have to meet me at the office first because my safety is more important than a potential sale. Linda made excellent points and seems like a great professional that puts her clients first, I don't see any problem with anything she said. Angieanders: Congratulations! It's great when the end turns out like this.

Sounds so ridiculous here, but it took us YEARS to "get it"!

Very funny and true.

I could take that tip sometimes. I don't really have the problem of buying stuff I can't afford.... but not making enough for the stuff I buy......j./k

more along the lines of buying stuff and feeling I have trouble with making the ends meet.

Is it too nuts to send this to a few people I know and saying, I think you really need to watch this.

A corollary is "Don't buy stuff you don't really need."

Example: I have a several bath towels that are ragged around the edges and two are torn at one side. However, being that they still function properly to dry oneself, and I'm not wearing them in public, there's no reason to trash and replace them.
