what color hardwood to go with maple cabinets?

first time post -- so sorry if this is a repeat.

my husband and i are buying a new home with maple cabinets in the kitchen and would like to install hardwoods before moving in (floor is concrete, so we were looking at engineered floors)....we'd like a contrast, so we were looking at brazilian cherry vs. a warm oak stain vs. walnut. in addition (if it helps) we also want to install new countertops (either granite or silestone) that was a darker tone as well to "match" the floors....

any and all help will be very welcome as i'm a bit bad about picking out colors. thanks!

It just so happens we are building a new home with natural maple cabinets and brazilian cherry floors. We have looked at this combination at a few open houses recently and, in our opinion, it looks great. Our only reservation is moving furniture and rugs around while the cherry "turns" into its beautiful color. We are going to go with a pretty dark counter (not matching the floor) and tie them together with the backsplash.

The cabinets are supposed to be stain-free, however the packing materials indicated the finish is "wheat". The floor was put in over 10 years ago. We found a few boards in the attic and patched a couple of spots (moved door, removed peninsula). The finish has yellowed over time, but it's not too noticeable. Someone here has pictures of their natural red oak floors and their quartersawn white oak cabinets. It was a beautiful contrast!! Hopefully she will post to this thread because I can't remember who it was. I did the opposite...quartersawn white oak floors and stained red oak cabinets. Quartersawn oak is more expensive, but has a very different appearance and grain. It really doesn't even look like oak, except for the tone and color of the wood.

Thank you for this suggestion... I am torn as well with the remodel of this 25 yr old home. I chose cherry floors, SW Sand Beach paint with BM White Dove trim. Nothing as grand as the house above, my ceiling are low, lighting was a challenge, plus kitchen has cherry cabinets as well. I am going with a quartz countertop with a marble look to lighten up the kitchen. Everything piece of trim was solid oak in the house. Now on the window treatments and furniture. Any further suggestions?

Thank you HerrProfessorDoktor, I am glad you are letting others know about the issues you are having. It is too bad you regret the dark, perhaps you could restain them lighter in the future? I am very fortunate as I have had dark hard wood floors in my last house and plan to install them again in this house. I love the look and had no regrets last time with care so I think I will be okay. However, I do think it is wise of you to post as there are others who may not know the challenges of dark hardwood floors looking pristine.
