Square topped pedestal table

I'm appealing to you good people here on the furniture board for some help. We are doing a total kitchen reno & have included a banquette space which naturally needs a table. My DH & I LOVE the Kessler 9115 table base -- see this link -- http://www.carolinarustica.com/cart/product.php?productid=58701&cat=1690&page=1.

We can only seem to find round table tops for it, though. Anyone know if you can use a square top (42" or 48") with this type of pedestal? Both sides of our banquette are the same size, so we're thinking a square will be better than a round, though I do love the look of a round table with the banquette.

If you have a square pedestal table with or without a banquette, I'd love to see pics! Many thanks!

You see these all the time in restaurant booth furniture. If you want square, I'd say go for it. The only caveat that I can think of is that the corners are further away from the center of gravity, so applying a lot of pressure on a corner might tip or bobble the table.

My grandfather had one like that that was kind of a mixture of a gold and silver color, but it had an acanthus detail on the pedestal, and the top was removable so that you could carry it around as a serving tray. I repainted it and eventually threw it out a couple of years ago because it was no longer really salvageable. My vote is to keep it gold for now because you may like it later. It would also look good if it were ebonized with gold trim on the detailed areas (I had my grandfather's Baker end tables redone several years ago and the guy redid the ebonized part and gold leaf, and they came out great).

OK, the link won't work but try a web site called Furniture From Home. Item # 909. They have the picture of a round glass top but say you can get two pedestals and either an 84" or 96" rectangular top. They also have 96" square. Pedestals are cherry with nice lines and are $349 each. Glass for the square is also $349 but they don't list the price for the rectangular glass. Free white glove delivery over $1000 purchase. The table is shown with chenille and leather chairs.

I just ordered a custom table from a furniture store in NKY (J & L Furniture & Accessories). The owner of the store is ordering it from the Amish. It is also for my banquette, and about the same size (round to oval). The price is in the price range that you need. The only thing is that it is custom made and it will take at least 5 weeks to get it. That's ok with me, I just need it to be the correct size. We (family) are willing to wait for it to be made. I just went to a furniture store last week and they sold a brand of kitchen tables called Bermex. You could design it yourself...pedestal bottom with square top, double pedestal with rectangle top. Then you choose the legs and the finish. I have read about Bermex on other threads and it seems to be a good company.
I also saw the same type thing through Bassett furniture.

Bermex is good, Saloom is much better. I don't sell kessler. Square tops are fine.

Kessler... before ordering it, call the factory and ask some questions. They announced a few months ago they were going to close, then in May they said they'd make certain items, but I got the impression they were getting out of indoor dining furniture. Just call the factory and ask before you order.

mogator88: Thanks for the info re: Kessler. I did check into it & so far, so good. Any idea on the price range of Saloom? They're lovely & I've heard so many good things on these boards about them, but no idea of pricing.

idalia 2007: thanks for the link, but those tables are just a bit too modern for me.

Today's paper in fact has a story about Kessler reopening, with a smaller lineup. I don't like to feed the rumor mill, but I will post information from public announcements or things I've read in a reputable publication.

I think Kessler is good people, just trying to do their best in the worst of times, and in the furniture business this is the worst of times.

Saloom pricing will vary widely depending on options. They price out similar to (and often less than) Canadel, but with much higher quality. I haven't sold Bermex in a while, so I can't compare with them.

DMOH - Loved to see what you came up with. We are also looking for a square with pedestal to go with benches in a breakfast nook.

Wow, thought this was a dead thread....

In any case casa1, thanks for your interest, but the short answer is we've come up with nothing yet! To be honest in addition to not being able to decide & with all the back to school & work (I'm a teacher) stuff, extracurricular activities, and finding out my dad needs to have a bypass surgery, helping my mom deal with the drs. & hospital & canceling their planned vacation, to be honest I haven't had the time yet to think about the banquette area. Right now it's on the back-burner [of my soon-to-be installed GE dual fuel slide in ;)] As soon as we decide, I'll post our choice.
