Has Anyone Ever Tried/Baked This Cake?

Hi everyone,

A well known soda has gone national now (Sun Drop) and I love the taste of it (not very healthy since I read how much caffiene is in it but still tastes good). There is a recipe for Sun Drop cake! Mom and I are going to try it and if I like it maybe I'll make it for my birthday next month (the 27th a month from today! I'll be the big 21). Has anyone ever made it or ate it? What did you think? Or anyone on here drink Sun Drop? It is now my favorite soda :).

Do you have a recipe for us? Someone might recognize the ingredients under a different name.

I remember a recipe from way back for 7-up cake but I never made it. I'm sure it's in some of the community type cookbooks I have. It might be similar.

It's been over 6 months since our last deep freeze, so I thought it was about time to give an up-date. All of the Olive Trees showed signs of freeze damage. Many of the leaves and smaller branches turned brown and eventually died. I would estimate that about 1/3 of the outer foliage had some sort of damage. I waited until May before removing any of the burnt looking foliage whatsoever. It's now the middle of August and the trees look green and healthy. The Oleanders and Changsha Orange didn't make it. However, I am happy to report, after turning all brown and looking quite dead, the Climbing Figs made a 100% recovery. In fact, they look better than they have in years (probably due to all the new growth). Looking around the neighborhood, it appears that most gardens suffered similar damage as mine. One can still see some dead limbs and leaf burn which hasn't yet been removed. A few homes lost some marginal hardy plants/trees like Eucalyptus and Sago Palms. But overall, it's now hard to tell that we ever experienced such cold weather. I am now back in Ireland, completing the end of a two-year assignment. If our Olive Trees make it through this winter, I plan to attach photos so everyone can see.

Google crock pot bread recipes. These two are for the old fashioned 70's style Rival that you could use with a coffee can insert. CROCK POT ZUCCHINI BREAD 2 eggs 2/3 c. vegetable oil 1 1/3 c. zucchini, peeled and grated 2 tsp. vanilla 2 c. flour 4 tablespoons sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts With mixer, beat eggs until light and foamy. Add oil, sugar (1/4-1/2 cup depending upon how sweet you prefer it), grated zucchini and vanilla. Combine well. Stir dry ingredients with nuts. Add to zucchini mixture. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 2 pound coffee can or 2 quart mold. Place in crock pot. Cover top with 8 paper towels. Cover and bake on high 3 to 4 hours. DO NOT CHECK OR REMOVE cover until last hour of baking. PUMPKIN BREAD 1/2 c. oil 1/2 c. white sugar 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 beaten eggs 1 c. canned pumpkin 1 1/2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice 1 tsp. soda 1 c. chopped walnuts 1/2 c. dates, cut up Blend oil and sugars, stir in eggs and pumpkin. Sift dry ingredients and add to above. Stir in nuts and dates. Pour butter into greased and floured 2 pound coffee can. Place can in crock pot (Rival or any tall crock pot). Cover top of can with 6-8 folded paper towels. Place lid on pot. Bake at high for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. No peeking until last hour. CONVENTIONAL OVEN: In loaf pan, bake at 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour.

Review.... Heavy...no one cared for it. The cake itself was heavy, the pudding/frosting was heavy. Almost too chocolately,(never thought I would say that) I wouldn't make it again.

Never heard of Sundrop, but lots of info on their website.
They even have cake recipes.

I have a friend who loves Sun Drop so much she wears the bottle caps as earrings to go with her constantly worn Sun Drop T-shirt! Maybe I just don't know what the intrigue is about this beverage yet I live in the South where everybody seems to advertises this soda, but have yet to try it. Goes along with the area's RC Cola or Nehi Grape - they only get out of the South in a suitcase.

Here is the one I printed off cooks.com . It sounds delicious! Nancy, your friend sounds like a Sun Drop fan for sure! I've also heard of 7-Up cake and Coca-Cola cake too. Never had one of those either but I hear they're good!

I've never heard of the cake. Sun Drop is a favorite soft drink in theis area. Back when I drank that type of drink it was one of my favorites.

Sundrops bottled in Tennessee are better than those in Alabama for some reason. I wouldn't turn down either one if I was in the mood for a carbonated beverage.

I just noticed a stack of this stuff in Walmart today..it's not one I'd EVER seen or heard of before.

Terri, that's where we bought ours at. I was suprised to see it there. I found out later that it's the first time they're selling it nationwide. My dad drank it years ago in the glass bottles and he said you could taste the pulp in it (in a good way).

I could swear Sundrop was only found in southern middle Tennessee and north Alabama. It's gone national? I'd liken it to Mountain Dew if I had to pick a close cousin.

I made the below recipe and it's a good pound cake. However, it does make me think of Jeanne Roberstson's story. She's hilarious!
