Felt Underlayments - Is more better?

We'll be installing solid 3/4" prefinished oak flooring on our 2nd floor over two layers of T&G plywood (3/4" and 1/2"). DH is a professional remodeler and an admitted overbuilder.

We've heard to use ordinary 15 lb. roofing felt under the hardwood, but DH, being DH, can't help but think that if 15 lb. is good, then 30 lb. must be better. And that 2 layers of 30 lb. would probably be even better than one layer.

So my question is a pretty simple one:

- Is 30 lb. better than, worse than or same as 15 lb? (DH says 15 lb. is flimsy and tears)

- Would 2 layers of 30 lb. felt be good? Harmless? (waste of time and money only) Or actually bad? (And if bad, why?)
