Frozen pie, can I substitute... etc.

Hi!

I guess I actually have two questions for you wonderful cooks and bakers...

(1) I'm thinking about making this frozen chocolate pie for my bridge friends this week and I am wondering whether or not I can substitute real whip cream for the cool whip in the recipe?

The recipe is for chocolate and cream cheese (and maybe a couple of other things like vanilla...) and cool whip, then you put it in the freezer. But, I am not a fan of cool whip. Would real whip cream work in a freezer pie?

(2) I am planning on making a chocolate cookie crust, and brushing it with melted chocolate (sticking it in the freezer for a bit before filling it). While the frozen chocolate filling sounds good, I am thinking about trying to create a chocolate layer below it. At first I thought "half a chocolate cream pie recipe", then half of this frozen pie recipe on top. But, I worried that the chocolate cream might not freeze well. Would that work do you think? Or...Do any of you have a suggestion for a chocolate "layer" below the frozen chocolate whip filling?

Thanks in advance. All of you are just great about helping out with questions from occasional posters (like me)!

cheers,

-Kim
