There are kids, of course...but I'm kind of banking on the layout preventing them from being directly in front of the fireplace while rough housing. mjsee - if the floor is tile, why do I need a hearth rug? I am honestly asking...I don't have much experience with fires/fireplaces, so I don't know what's required. One thought I did have was to get a pull-out tray below the grate to catch ash to try to keep the wall around it cleaner when we have to clean out the ash. jakabedy - you can see a little of the house in my clippings - it's a 50's ranch, not a MCM, but we tend to keep things pretty cleanlined. I definitely sweat every detail, which most people don't even think about. I think minimal crown is probably ok. It's when you get into the gigantic moldings that it starts to jar with the original style of the home. Laura- is the doors will be solid walnut, you will have to have battens-the ones my cab maker proposed are pictured above. Do a search for slab cabinets on this site-veneer is often the choice of even higher end lines. I am also using semi handmade walnut doors. Scherrs has walnut ones too-both solid and veneer IIRC. Writers block-thank you, yes, I saw that on IF. Their website is not easy to search and seems to crash my browser so I try to minimize how often I visit. I think you are right about the white being too high maintenance. I ordered a 12x24 grey tile, so hopefully it doesn't show too much dirt.

Nice home. Saw the saw … and the toilet: remodeling the bathroom? When the construction work/painting, etc. is done, make sure you find a way to "lose" the clutter in every room and you'll like the results of your remodel efforts a lot better. Your cherry cabinets look great -- don't change them. For decorative purposes, you might consider adding white painted box shelving above your existing cabinets -- replacing the short section of drywall above the cabinets. Open shelving can mix well with a modern farmhouse vibe and you could display treasures -- cookie jars, candy dishes, serving dishes, that you like but rarely use there. Alternately ... ... While I don't like wall paper for the walls generally, having some wall paper trim tape at the top of the wall at the ceiling can add interest t-- and a desired look -- to a kitchen with a short "wall" above the cabinets (overhead cabinets that don't go all the way to the ceiling or have an open space above them). Less expensive than having them reframed. You could swap out overhead light fixtures for ceiling fans with lights with the modern farmhouse look you seek. @Indecisiveness there will be windows lower in the bedrooms on each wing . We have one side that will open to a courtyard. so this won’t be in any comparison to a basement- that’s for sure. im Sure that was a fun experience! Basement living And a father who did it all himself. That was my life too (minus the basement). My dad would buy and sale quite a lot and we lived in many unfinished homes . He loves those fixer uppers and living in them until they sold. 😂 @Mark Bischak i do understand the garage statement . But having it away from the home gave us more space inside and more light. Would be open to any suggestions for sure. @ourfarmhouse- yes this home has very tall ceilings . Always wanted a two story feel in a one story home. The living room will have metal beams and lined with a light colored wood. The fire place will have a whole wall of rough white brick . @ourfarmhouse at the front of your renderimags- to the left of the orange door. What would this be? Kind of curious. I have already printed them out and wasn’t sure. as for the garage. It just wouldn’t fit pulled into the house now that we’ve added a mud room . so you like that flat roof wirh breeze way.
