Need Help in choosing a good carpet

Have never purchased wall to wall carpet, and need some good advice. I am certain this has been covered, but after a lot of searching on both the web and other forums, I donÂt think I came up with a clear answer.

We are going to replace the carpet in 2 bed rooms and the living /dinning room. Our house is a typical Florida block on slab construction. The slab appears to be very dry and we have seen no problems with moisture or mold. The current carpet shows wear paths, some stains, and is unraveling at places where it meets a tile floor. It appears to be a loop type pile, has a "sculptured" design, and feels hard underfoot.

We would like a carpet that feels good on bare feet, wears well, doesnÂt show the traffic patterns, and is stain resistant. We will chose a light neutral color. What fibers, piles, types of construction, and brand names should we be considering? While cost isnÂt too much of a concern, but quality is. Actually if money were no object we'd do either wood or tile.

Any and all advice apreciated.
