Tile borders

I want to put a tile border around my fireplace. I want some kind of pattern around it, and then fill in with polished marble or some kind of stone.

All the tile places in my area don't have borders that can go across the top and down the sides. They just have patterns that can be used across the top. Anyone have an online source for this sort of thing? My store had Dune borders, but not any patterns that could be used around the whole fireplace. The patterns couldn't be mitered and still look right.

It's called L'Esperance Tile Works. I found some beautiful tiles on ebay, and found them through that. Their brochure shows beautiful Victorian tile. Some come in1X6 in tiles. They do whole fireplaces, so they could probably help[ you design it, too.

That is so pretty and colorful. I would think the same mortar that's used inside the house would stick them on, but they would be permanently affixed. I'm sure a good tile shop in your area would have some good advice. Edited to add: here is a site with some more good information -homeguides.sfgate.com/tile-outdoor-exterior-wall Just from a quick read I see you need to use an exterior grade of thinset. I still love the look.

Those are custom tile work and I don't believe you would be able to purchase outright. But if you google "Fleur de lis tile mosaic" you should be able to find something to your liking. Fleur de Lis is a nice one. This one is more custom look and priced accordingly

I did a whole shower in glass tiles and a glass mosaic, but used porcelain on the shower floor. Even used glass tile on the shower ceiling. There are no design rules for showers! The main thing is that you want your floor tile not to be too slippery when wet. Your blue tile might look better with a white ceramic tile instead of glass, but I would have to see them in person to make that decision.

Hi momfromthenorth - I think perhaps (in my non Pro opinion) the style of the tile border is more important than the border itself. I generally do not borders. They seem just thrown in - maybe because people are trying to follow trends. However, I will say that kudzu’s bathroom is really very nicely done and that border enhances the overall look.
