How many banana pups?
Comments (6)I think that I will engage in a little infanticide. I will have 8 plants in this clump if I leave it. I think that 4 or 5 should be sufficient for that one, at least until I know if its a banana, a plantain, or just pretty foliage. I suppose that early execution is better than letting them get a few feet tall. I have very sandy soil here on my hill. Drainage is fast and furious, so I fertilize twice a month in small doses and toss on whatever organics I come across. Larry...See MoreTwo topics: Photobucket, keeping up with daily cups
Comments (13)Thanks rhome and bmore for that help. That problem is solved! I must have stumbled on that resizing option by accident in the first place. doraville, thanks for the empathy. Picasa is quite fast. I agree p'bucket is a pain to work through. Maybe after my kitchen is done I'll switch over. And your new kitchen is quite amazing! Beautiful cabinets, granite, floors, splash, dogs... The LOP probably helped get you through to this point, but I know you are happy to have your new elements finished! Congratulations! I'm guessing with those gorgeous cherry trees you live somewhere in the southeast, or eastern seaboard? jrueter, so funny about your DH! Now, you don't have any quirks like that, do you? I'm sure I don't! And I always do everything I am constantly telling my kids to do. rhome, with eight kids, I think there wouldn't be enough colors for that kind of a system anyway! But... sigh... it probably is yet another thing I just need to let go of for now. I always say I am going to deal with one thing at a time and end up trying to fix everything at once. I look forward to getting back to normal... if there is such a thing....See MoreHow to fix cupped drawer bottoms so they'll stay flat
Comments (10)While wood can warp when one side is wetter than the other, when the moisture equalizes, which it will, it will return to its natural state. The problem is due to either or both of these: - Reaction wood -- twisted grain or wood that was grown under stress such as on a hillside. - Differential expansion / contraction rates of radial (from the center out) and tangential (around the growth rings). While these number vary by species, it's generally on the order of twice as much tangentially as radially. This is why logs usually split and open a "pie piece" shaped split.A way to explain this is that the curves in the annual rings tend to flatten out. My opinion is "in the end, the wood has the final say."I've not seen a successful way to "unwarp" something permanently. My recommendation is to use plywood or fabricate new drawer bottoms from quarter-sawn wood. Comments (4)Beth - the same recipe is in Joy of Pickling only in it it specifies 1 and 1/2 c chopped bell peppers so yeah, no problem. I understand the preference to be more precise and mostly I agree. But in pickling recipes, because of all the vinegar, there is a great deal of room for adjustment and less precision and still be quite safe. Unfortunately we still find many recipes that aren't as specific as they could and should be which is why each has to be evaluated on its own merits. But if you look at all the pickle relish recipes at NCHFP you'll see that they call for anything from 1 to 3 cups of chopped peppers (depending on the recipe) so in this one 1.5 cups is not an issue.
