I've read this stuff until my head is spinning, but I'm UCL-electricity impaired! Please define these terms: splice box transformer power supply junction box Are these four separate things? Here's my situation: I have two runs of upper cabinets on opposite sides of my 13x13 kitchen. One run is separated by a vent hood into two "runs". I told my electrician I wanted one switch to control all UCLs, so he installed a switch under the end of one run of cabinets. At the moment, there is one thick, flat yellow wire sticking out from under each of the three "runs" of cabinets. I showed him the Juno Pro LED lights from HD, and he said he would install the appropriate wiring. Did he install direct wire? Is it too late now for low voltage? Is that yellow wire called Romex? My electrician is not good at communication. He tells me now I can use "his" special "to the trade" tape LEDs even though I thought he had set up my cabinets for direct wire. And I thought all tape LEDs were low-voltage, which requires different wiring, no? For direct wire, I thought I'd only need to purchase one Juno Pro LED fixture to fit under each cabinet, plus some sort of wires to connect each one in each of the three "runs" of cabinets in my kitchen. So I'm very confused about all the references in this thread to junction boxes and splice boxes!! What on earth are those? How many of those do I need? One splice box for each fixture? How many junction boxes? Or will the electrician supply those? I want to buy the lights and everything else I need myself and have my electrician install them. He marks up everything a lot, and I'm getting pretty fed up with his pricing and his inability to communicate clearly. One last question: The Juno Pro LED lights are expensive! I've read elsewhere in this forum that there are Xenon fixtures I can buy (Seagull lighting?) that will take LED lights when I have the money to upgrade. Will the Juno Pro Xenon fixtures (which look identical to the LED fixtures) also take the LED lights? The Juno Pro Xenon fixtures are about 50% cheaper. If I go that route, will the wiring my electrician installed (those big yellow wires and one switch) work as well? Or am I stuck with Juno Pro LEDs or some other expensive LED option? Any advice is appreciated. I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown with this renovation, and the UCLs are about to push me over the edge! TIA!

2LittleFishies: my upholstered sitting area chairs are tub styled with no wood but my dining chairs are wood with upholster seat cushions. I sprayed my chairs in the house. I put a plastic tarp down on my wood floors first under the chairs. I did nothing to protect the wood on my dining chairs. I can't say how much of the product may have gotten on the wood but if any did there was no damage. The 303 High Tech Fabric Guard is in a non- aerosol bottle spray bottle that can be set to spray or stream. The bottle contains the usually warnings about fumes and ventilation but to me it really was not smelly and there is absolutely no chemical smell left on the treated fabric. The spray makes the fabric water repellant. Water literally does bead up on it which it does not do on my new living room couch with a factory applied stain guard. I did test putting cooking oil on some scrap fabric that I treated with the 303 and it cleaned up with no stain. I dont recall what the content of my fabrics is. It says on the bottle that it is for all fabric but suggests testing for colorfastness. It also says it is recommended by and for Sunbrella Brand Fabric so I guess that's a pretty could endorsement. I guess it's considered expensive at about $14 for a 16 ounce bottle. But I think it is worth it. I sprayed it liberally and did 8 dining chair cushions and the top, sides, front, back and both sides of the cushions for two tub chairs. I used about 24 ounces of the product. Hope this info is of some help to you. I have been following all your kitchen posts and can't wait to see how the finished product looks. Love the choices you have made so far.

Butternut, my suggestion would be to take another look at the garden photo and stay true to your vision. You have something you like and I think you are getting closer to it than anyone so far. I think your post with the PB photo and the one that began with the navy blue couch are taking you in that direction more than anything else here, but you can do some editing. I would probably only use one of the florals -- they are too similar in pattern and scale. I like the one with the linen background -- it plays well with the other elements in the room, especially the stone and doesn't wake up the orange in the wood floor like the predominantly yellow one (though I do like that print for another use). Leather doesn't have to be paired with tapestries and heavy things. Sure, it can be - if you want a club or lodge look, but seeing leather only that was would be like only wearing the balck dress to a funeral. You can play with other textures: linen, chunky knits, faux fur nad more. Do keep in mind the dye and finish of the leather. Not all will wear as well for family use and some are more rustic looking. You want the family friendly finish without a lot of the rustic (the room has enough of that unless you want the lodge). If you don't go with leather, slipcovers, outdoor fabrics like Sunbrella and Krypton. I've had microfiber and liked it (cleans with distilled water), but I wouldn't put it on the main piece in a family room with kids. It is still fabric and wears. Main issue we had was snags from pets or possibly other things. I haven't done slipcovers except one I bought to go over a sofa when we were about to sell our house. Using them all the time seems like a pain -- taking them off, washin, wrestling them back on -- wishing they looked pressed. Maybe that's just me, but leather held up to 13 years of boys and pets growing up and now my son is taking the ends of the sectional to grad school to be his sofa. That's durable enough for me. I like the blue sofa or sectional idea. Blue and red are complimentary colors, so it's going to work better with the wood floor and it compliments the grey stone in the fireplace too. The Mont Blanc Storm goes flat for me -- acts more like the backdrop. That's not what you want when you are tryng to change the feel of the room. The blue stands up to the wood and stone and still commands attention without shouting. It is also one of the main three colors in your photo. Go with it for one of your major pieces. I like it as a sofa (and loveseat if you like them matching) or sectional, but the slipcovered sofa and blue smaller pieces look good too. If you are open to changing the rug, you might find a way to bring in some of the greens or purple in your photo. I'm out of time, but I'll check back......
