Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers. It is so good to know you're out there for me!

No news until noon today. We're trying to keep busy. Expecting our grandson (the new big brother) here this afternoon. We'll work in the garden together.

Not sure what they're telling him yet. He is 2 1/2. (sigh)

Heehee...grandma...that sounds pretty funny! I am actually just sleeping with the grandpa... ;-) They call me Mamie, my childhood nickname.

The kids actually call my husband Zadie and when the first set of grandkids was born, my step daughter asked me if I wanted to be called Bubbie. I was 39 at the time and my dear MIL, aka Bubbie, was recently deceased. Taking on her nickname seemed so wrong on so many levels!

So, Mamie it was and is and ever will be. At least I guess... I wonder what my 16 y.o. daughter's kids will call me someday.

Mamie and Zadie. That is great! I am 'Grammy Crackers' and Rob is 'Papa'. I was just 'Grammy' until I offered some graham crackers to the grand kids. My oldest grand daughter was 3 years old at the time and made a connection between graham crackers and me. I've been 'Grammy Crackers' every since. LOL!

Rob has been Papa to everyone. The kids, grand kids, great nieces and nephews. Even my best friend, Sandy, calls DH 'Papa Robert'.

So Mamie, let us know about Lyra ASAP, OK? I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about her.

Amy, I've dealt with a similar situation in the past. Spent a few days in NICU cradling a newborn. Happy ending.

I fell asleep, last night, mentally cradling yours.

Okay, Parma....I haven't cried since last night....'til now. :-)

My own DD spent 5 weeks in the NNICU when she was born two months prematurely. I am totally convinced that the reason she pulled through ~ and through with no residual problems now~ is because of the many, many prayers for her from family, friends and total strangers across our country. I'll keep Lyra Jane in my prayers for you.

I too love the name. I will say a huge prayer and probably shed a few tears thinking of your precious little one. I too believe strongly in prayer. I participated in what I truly believe was a prayer miracle years ago. That little baby is now a teenager and no signs of her injury. Doctors said it was a true miracle. So my intense thoughts and prayers are coming your way.

My SIL is a NICU nurse in LA. She loves her job and prefers to work night shift. She calls all the babies "her babies" and even calls to check on them on her days off. It takes a special person to be a NICU nurse. So take relief knowing she is in special hands.

My Aunt in law volunteers to hold drug babies up in WA state. She says it is so hard to do but she feels it is God's will that she do it.

It is amazing how many "angels" touch our babies lives no matter what their circumstances. I will also pray that her parents find peace and patience during this time of concern. They too need our thoughts.

Another shout out to the staff in the NICU's across the Country. They were/are the best of the best. We still go back every year around DD's b-day to say hi and thank you, 19 years later. If you can believe, there are still nurses and docs that remember DD who was under their wonderful care so many years ago!

Please keep us updated on Lyra Jane. And congrats to Zadie as well!

I have worked as a PA in the NICU for the last 12 years, it's such a scary place for new parents especially since all our admissions are totally unanticipated and life changing. Just checking in to see if there is any news before I pick up my twins from school. They are turning 6 this month. We came so close to losing Mariah. Thank God for NICU's and the dedicated people who care so much. I just can't think there is any other choice for beautiful Lyra Jane.

Well, no news...that's good news, right? :-)

Tomorrow will bring some test results. In the meantime, the infectious disease doc says it will probably just go away, she'll be fine and we'll never know what it was.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance about the NICU staff. Indeed, Mom and Dad are very pleased with the care they're receiving.

No one in the hospital has ever seen anything like this. (Sorry, I don't feel comfortable going into details...being the step-mother, and all.) I'd be going to the Big City for a second or third opinion. But, I am a very strong momma bear...

I have to sit on my hands and try to keep my mouth shut. Not my forte.

Amy, I'm with you on big cities and 2nd opinions especially when no one's seen anything like what is wrong.

Definitely another quiet vote for the big city. Having been in a situation where the hospital where I gave birth hadn't seen DD's situation. They had an idea of what it could be (were correct), but hadn't ever dealt with DD's situation. I was all for transferring her out to the closest Children's Hospital. However, the final decision is the parents' along with the doctors.

Itt was very difficult to have DD transferred. Fortunately my ob/gyn discharged me 24 hrs. post-delivery so I would not have to be in the hospital without my baby. Also, it allowed me to get home, rest and get to the hospital where DD was transferred.

When I would have to go from the Dr.s office to the Critical Care Unit to help him I would always meander through the NICU wing on my way to Critical Care. Seeing all of the portraits of big school aged kids (once NICU pts) lining the walls of the wing always made me so happy.

Can your dh suggest to them to get a second opinion just to be on "the safe side?"

I'd be going into the big city too -- that's one of the premier cities in the *world* for medical care...BWH is there! Holding you all in the light and waiting to hear...

Tomorrow I am leaving at 5 AM for my grand daughters 7th eye surgery in San Francisco. Her brother poked her eye with his elbow and dislocated her lens.

My DS was in nicu two weeks and frankly when we left the nicu I was scared chitless to take him home....the folks in nicu are so much better qualified to care for a baby in distress than me LOL I miss those people. they were beyond fabulous!!

DS spent a great deal of time in big cities and with big city doctors. Same thing...no one knew what was wrong with him. I don't regret those big city docs at all. They eventually found his problem and as a mom, knowing what was wrong was half the battle if not more. I vote for the big city :)

Shes still in my thoughts though, until you share that she gets to go home healthy and strong!!!!

Update...Lyra is out of NICU and off the IV meds. Mom and baby are in a birthing room, so at least they can be together. They may let her come home tomorrow. Thanks for joining me in prayers and positive thought.

This has been tough for us, with a blended family and very different approaches to doctors and medical issues. Being the second wife, the younger wife, the step-mother, a grandmother, all while still actively parenting my own teenager, puts me in a weird place with my step-kids, the grandkids, the ex-wife, etc. We all usually do remarkably well together, but a crisis forces us to stretch and grow a bit. Or not.

I appreciate hearing from you all and am grateful for the stories you have shared. It is good to remember that the vast majority of outcomes are good. Hope to return tomorrow with more good news.

Just popped in and read your post, that's FANTASTIC!!! What great news, I'm so happy she is doing better. Yeah!!!! I knew it was a sunny day for a reason!

So happy to hear she is out of NICU! Hoping you are all feeling relieved and able to get some rest. Best wishes continue for you all.

Glad to hear the good news. I totally get the heart-stopping feeling. When my now 4 1/2 year old twin grandsons were born at 36 weeks, one spent 1 week in the NICU then another week in the step-down unit. The other twin had blood and bilirubin issues and spent 2 weeks in the NICU, where they performed a total blood transfusion at 8 days old, then 2 weeks in the step-down and then we spent the next year running back and forth to hematologists and pulmonologists. The poor baby was a pincushion. Thank goodness that's behind us and they're both getting ready to start kindergarten this fall.

Lyra is home tonight! Yeaaaa! I don't have lots of details, but hopefully life will be getting back to a new normal.

I am sorry about no pics. I have been a bit squeamish about posting pics here of my own kiddo and don't feel it is my place as a step-grandma to post pics of Lyra. But, I know you have held her in your hearts and helped speed her path home. And I thank you all so much.

I can't tell you how much it has meant to me to be able to come here, spill a little, ask for positive energies, get the support. You are an amazing group of friends!

Wow, I haven't been over on this side lately, missed all this but I'm glad Lyra is OK and home.

Completely understand about no pics. I've had enough trouble getting up the courage to post pics of our house. A little soul newly born to this planet? I couldn't post it to a public site. I can't forget that every pic posted here becomes g'web's property.

Hope Lyra is charging ahead full steam! (that's a GC joke :))
