kitchen fllor luxury vinyl help

Hi everyone. I am considering vinyl flooring in my new (addition) kitchen and attached family room, but only if it will look really wonderful. i am looking at vinyl because of its sturdiness and ability to stand up to moisture in a kitchen. 2 questions: 1) is it generally less expensive to install than tile? I want to buy luxury quality so I know the materials may not be less expensive, but is the installation going to save significant money? 2) if I go for vinyl I want vinyl tile or planks that look as much like "the real" thing as possible in either medium wood color or beigy/cremy? stoney lokking tile. Any opinions and/or specific recommendations for brands and lines that are really good fakes? thanks a million

I'm in the same boat. I'm considering high-end vinyl for several reasons. We have pets and grandchildren and live in the country. I need something very durable and easy to clean. My parents put in a top of the line vinyl plank floor in their home in 1960 and it still looks great! Vinyl isn't very "green" however. Still, NAFCO/Tarkett makes one that looks like hand-scraped wood planks and a stone look line as well. I talked to the owner of a flooring store that carried it and she said that everyone who has it wants it again including her and they also sell hardwood. I don't know about installation price as these folks include it in their price which was around $5 per sq. ft. If I had my absolute druthers, I'd get cork but am trolling this forum seeing what people think who actually have it.

Seems to me that any floor covering that can last for 40-50 years is "green enough". That's a few decades of not buying flooring that has to be manufactured and transported (sometimes great distances) and disposing of worn-out flooring. And, really, that's what "green" is all about, not showing off the fancy new green-darling floor you had shipped all the way from Europe or Africa.

Wellll.....there's middle-class and then there's middle-class. In the SF Bay Area, $1M+ homes are middle-class. Upscale is roughly in the $2.5M+ area. Really high-end goes $5M+, but that's due to amount of land, not really size of house. So it depends on where you are, as usual. I'd decide based on what your buyer market is looking for. Many first-time homeowners love wood, then discover it's more long-term maintenance than they thought. It's not so simple to move all your stuff out of half the house to have the floors rescreened, once you've been in there for 10 yrs or so! Most busy, stressed, family-juggling homeowners are fine with the idea of lower maintenance as long as the good looks are still there - and I can honestly say, having just installed $10K worth of Mannington Adura LVP, it is MUCH harder to tell the difference these days between it and real hardwood (which we have in the rest of the house: original 1940's wide-plank oak with walnut plugs). Your decision. I'd trust a good local RE pro. Get a couple of opinions, and then decide.

With all the light neutral's your using, the sky is the limit for your flooring color choice. If you're keeping everything streamline and neutral, I'd say stick to it, unless you want to add some contrast with something really dark. I think it all depends on the lighting. Stick to light neutrals if there isn't an abundance of natural light, a wood-look vinyl in a light grey/beige tone may look nice. The Flooring Blog The Couture Floor Company

I'm not liking that shade of beige. If you want to stay within the color range of your existing choices I'd go light to medium greyish white with any pattern you select based on and complementary to the worktop which has to be chosen first. . . . It's difficult to go further because of the lighting or the exposure of your pictures. What I see can't be how it will appear in use. And I don't see if this floor contacts any other from another room. To add a warm color and pattern using LVP I'd look at pale woodlook products with 6-8"(200mm) width by 48"+ length. Check for how many different faces are supplied. This affects how realistic the overall floor looks when installed. Random install is also important unless you choose herringbone. Discussion of spacing.

We are doing ikea axtrad matte white cabinets, and bright white subway tile and quartz counter top- see attached... the two luxury tiles you see are from Mannington and Armstrong sandstone and pina colada. let me know if you are aware of a better matching LVT. My Mannington Adura oak look vinyl planks flooring is looking good after 7mos. I looked at many vinyls, including commercial products, and choose this one for durability, price, and looks. I previously had a commercial solid vinyl quarry tile type floor that looked great and stood up to dogs and kids and country living w/o problems. Hope the Adura does as well. I like real wood but not in heavy use areas like sitchens, baths, and mud rooms. Be sure to look at the specs on the company web site or sample book and do some scratch and scuff testing on samples before choosing what is best for you.
