Latex Mattress 2011: Update your experience?
Comments (9)Well, our experience has been different than the vast majority of the folks here. We bought a latex king combination from one of the main suppliers I read about on this forum, back in 2004. I think it was sleep EZ, but I am not sure. They were fine to deal with, and that is not the issue. We are now ready to change to something else (actually long overdue) because my husband is really getting back problems from our bed. We have shifted the layers a few times to try and make it firmer, but it just doesn't give him the support he thinks he needs. Further, it sags in the center of each side, where we sleep. It seemed to do this fairly soon after we bought it, so about 4 years ago, I had a local mattress place make us a box spring set for underneath. I had hoped that would help with the sagging issue, but it did not. The only part now that is good is right down the middle, where it has had the least use over the years and where the two box springs meet. I did speak to Shawn at sleep ez and I am going to just try taking out the box spring and softest layer of the latex and see if that helps. I wish I could recommend the latex, but for us, it hasn't been quite what we hoped. Do not worry about the layers because the padded cover they fit snugly inside keeps it all in place. Good luck with your purchase....See MoreDoes anyone have experience with Jamison Mattresses?
Comments (22)Ours has been replaced once already. (It made the 1.5" depression within 2-3 years.) I also have a bad back and have stopped sleeping on it. The depression from where my husband sleeps is a joke now. The dog loves to curl up in that depression, if that tells you anything. I won't touch Jamison after this. Don't know what the next one will be but its on our list for replacement this year. I will try to refrain here but it's amazing that they are still in business IMHO but then again, the mattress industry is unlike any other. The same bed can be in 20 different stores, each with a different price and different style "name". It's just a joke. I guess the manufacturers all have deep pockets to send to the lobbyists in Congress so no one messes in their consumer ripoffs. Anyone ever wonder why they sell mattresses now that can't be flipped? Yep, that's another "gotcha" so it will wear out faster....See MoreAny Recent Experience With Ethan Allen Sofas?
Comments (30)I am happy to share my experience with Ethan Allen Sleeper sofas hoping it will help others. We bought a Paramount Sleeper Sofa in 2013. In 2017 we noticed that the front pad that supports the cushions was bulging out (see photo). We contacted Ethan Allen and they said that because the problem was not in the frame, it was out of warranty. I looked at other pieces of furniture in our home and I noticed that the EA sofa, unlike other items, had a very “squishable” pad to support the cushions. We told EA that the sofa is seldom used (at most 20 times per year) and that my husband an I are not heavy and felt that there must be a problem with the design or construction. The final decision came in an email, from which I copy directly: “In conjunction with our warranty department, Jenn and I have carefully reviewed each of your questions and concluded that the sofa is up to our manufacturing standards.” We were told that our only option was to buy a replacement pad and pay a technician to replace it. When the pad arrived it was tightly rolled in a box (see photo). How is this soft pad supposed to support the weight of someone sitting on it? As I wrote EA, the sleeper and frame are “great”, unless one sits on the sofa. Not a good thing... for a sofa. And certainly not good “manufacturing standards” for Ethan Allen....See MoreYour experience w pillow top mattresses?
Comments (41)Hi, here is my follow up ! LOVE! First let me explain why I chose the Saatva soft plush. I have Fibromyalgia and a twice broken tail bone and arthritis. Very firm mattresses do not work well for the tail bone. My old no name mattress with two layers of coils plus good padding worked well for me for many years but it was time for a new mattress. Comfort wise while shopping I liked the Beautyrest black Natasha at Sears, King sets fake sale price $ $3419,99. I also liked the comfort of the Vitagenic Aireloom Hotel Collection at Macy's for the fake sale price of $3188,00. While these were very very cozy they lacked a bit of inner support for me. So, through much research I found out about Saatva's mattresses and the double layer of coils. The luxury firm seems to be their best seller but I again worried about the sticky outy bones so nervously went for the soft plush. This was a good move on my part. I had read enough reviews to learn that their mattresses are a tic more firm compared to other firm mattresses. I would say my new soft plush is closer to a luxury firmish plush top in other brands. Not too soft or too hard and nice supportive side/ends. Their luxury firm would not have been good for me. The other thing I'm hoping will be good for longevity is that they use a thinner interior memory foam layer. Most mattresses that I have read about who use a much thicker interior gel/memory foam tend to sink more over time. Although it's to early in my ownership to give a proper review that includes longevity, so far I really can't be happier. Unfortunately my old box springs were damaged in the move so I had to replace, otherwise I could have really come out well price wise. I have the 14 1/2" (there are other choices) King soft plush mattress at $899. Plus $100 for shipping and $39 to take the old stuff out. For my needs the construction of Saatva exceeds those on the market at the fake sale price range of (for set) $3,000 to $3,500. All in and including new box springs I'm at close to 50% cheaper than the others I was looking at and I think my new mattress is better Quality....See Moremogator88
