Some will say not to wear black shoes with a navy dress, but I'm not one of those people. I think it'd be a terrible waste of money to buy a pair of shoes just for the one occasion. I say wear the black shoes and be happy they're comfortable.

This advice comes from a compulsive shoeholic with over 100 pairs of shoes in her closet, but I mean every word. I just don't follow my own advice.

If I didn't feel like it looked great, I would wear something else. It's not so much "what are the rules" but how you feel and we each our own rules that guide our clothing decisions.
For many, it's the price, other people will sacrifice many other things to have a great outfit.
To me, they would be ok, but not great. But most people don't look great so it really depends on how much it is important to you.

Wear the black pumps - OR, if you want to be really snazzy, wear red or yellow shoes with jewelry to match.

I have a midnight navy dress I wear with black heels. Works great. Besides, nobody gonna be looking at you. They will be looking at the bride.

I ignored the "no black shoes with navy" rule for years without the fashion police hauling me in.

If you were a shoeaholic looking for an excuse, I'd cite the 'rule'. But you've got much better reasons for ignoring it.

That's an awesome dress. I'm not loving your black pumps with that dress. Can you find a nice pair of strappy sandals, either navy (that exactly match the dress - neva gonna happen) or some sort of metallic sandal with a bit of a heel? I think besides the color issue, the black buckle shoe is a totally different style than I would chose for that dress.

Anywho, I'm curious about this as well and googled it. The consensus is split about down the middle. Half say black is fine (and many don't like the matchy look of navy + navy). The non-black half says if not navy then metallic or contrasting (like dk plum) with little bag that matches shoes.

So then I went to Nordstrom and looked at navy dresses. ;)
Could be my eyes deceive me, but it looks like they're showing some navy dresses with black shoes (taupe, too).

Darn, I'm thinking that too (the shoe style doesn't really go with the dress)... Otherwise I likely would not have asked, or looked so hard to find a similar dress to show you. LOL! I've been shoe shopping on Zappos.

I do have a pair of deep pink, pointy toe pumps with a narrow heel that may work? They are plain, simple pumps... If I can remove the panty liners from inside from the last time I wore them without stockings... (Don't even ask.)

Deep pink and navy would look fantastic together! Get a necklace/earrings to match.

Amy, because it is you who asked, I will spill. I wore them last to my Aunt's 90th birthday party. It was last July, hot and I went bare legged. I was having serious hot flashes back them (prior to HRT) and I was worried my feet would sweat SO I got creative with a pair of 'Light Days' panty liners. I stuck them inside my pumps just in case my feet sweat, the panty liners would absorb it. Well, when I tried to remove the panty liners, the sticky part stuck and left a mess inside my pumps. (It seemed like a good idea at the time.)

The good news is: I just put my heels in the freezer for about 15 minutes and the remains of the Light Days panty liners came right out.

Sounds like a plan came together! Rules schmools. Black goes just fine with navy, and it IS style, not color. Better black shoes than white IMHO. I think the pink will be adorable, too.

I, personally wouldn't wear black shoes with navy - but that's just me! Actually, I don't wear navy. I'm not quite sure why not, but I don't. The only thing navy I own is an old pair of yoga pants.

Pantyliners? That SO sounds like something I would do.

I worked in hosiery for years at Macys. Don't recall ever seeing black shoes with navy but things change. I would rather see maybe a pewter or silver shoe and jewelry to match.

As for the pantyliner- what a great idea. It bugs me when I wear shoes in summer and think I smell my feet. The liner would really work.

A word of warning BEFORE you adopt my idea of panty liners inside shoes.
Panty liners are meant to stick to woven panties, NOT the solid surface inside shoes. While the freezer trick worked to get the bulk of the liner out, there is still a thin sticky film inside my shoes I have yet to deal with... (Lighter fluid?)

Panty liners are just a little too sticky... Plus, one can not *ever* remove your shoes in public for any reason when there are panty liners inside. They are so obviously panty liners, IYKWIM... Just a word of warning. Next time, I'm wearing those tiny socks that forever come off your feet.

Course, maybe if you didn't peel off the original backing and used painters blue or green masking tape...

goldust, though I still stand by my opinion that black shoes can be worn with a navy dress, I think the style of your pink shoes is better suited to the style of your dress.

I probably would have given you a different answer earlier, if I had realized you were unsure about the shoe as well as the color.

Now, tell us about the purse you'll be carrying. Don't overlook that detail!!!

I wouldn't personally wear black shoes with a dark navy outfit, because the colors can appear so close, they look mismatched. But I think lighter blues are fine with black, especially royal blues. Plus, it seems like navy shoes are limited so it's not like you can find any to match exactly.

Love the idea of pink shoes!

I don't know what Clinton and Stacy would say, but I'd pick something similar to this clutch. I like the fact that it ties in your navy and pick and introduces a pattern into your outfit.

These are my first choice and the first one is pricey.

Personally, I'd place my order for the Jessica purse. Sometimes items that are back ordered come in earlier and you could be lucky. If it doesn't come in in time you could cancel the order.

But I'm still looking.

They sell hidden shoe liners that you can wear inside your shoes when you don't wear hose or socks. I get mine at Target. My brand is Merona but I think Peds is another brand.

I think black shoes with navy is fine but red or silver would be a little better. But if you don't want to buy another pair of shoes just wear the black.
