Hardwood floor sealer swirls and blemishes, will they come out?
Comments (4)I assume these swirls scratches are in places other than where the stove will sit. The staining looks fine so the swirls are likely caused by the finisher buffing between coats. They may have used a screen that was too aggressive to be used between coats or they may have been using the coarser grit screen to remove dust or something that may have been blown in and embedded in the first coat. Another possibility is that the urethane was put on just a bit thin. A less likely issue is that the floor was tack ragged with something that stayed in the small swirl scratches and reacted with the finish. I've seen swirls like this before and they usually are removed by applying another coat. They should use a finer screen and then maybe follow that up with a Bona maroon pad. I've never seen a finish that was completely perfect, free of dust, hair, a bubble or some other imperfection, but there's a line between what's acceptable and what's not. If the finisher had enough skill to do the nice stain job he should be able to get the finish right....See MoreIs this normal? Hard wood floor grain with Bona Traffic HD
Comments (16)I have the same problem! It's so frustrating. We 104 year old white pine floors that we refinished and coated with Bona. A sealer and two coats. We used a sealer and two coats on the Doug fir floors elsewhere in our house and they are VERY smooth, the floor is like one continuum. We refinished maple floors in our former home - no problem there. The oak has tons of grain rise. So so bumpy. I thought it might be due to a) the large-ish gaps between most of the boards - the poly got thinned out as it sank into the holes and b) short cure time of the sealer since the weather was cool and damp. I lightly sanded between the coats of poly. Our plan is to buff, recoat and repete. Do you guys think the rentalable buffer would sand it down enough?...See More100% Clear hardwood sealer for white oak
Comments (5)The Loba Sealant and then using the Loba line (I'm a fan of the 2K Supra AT in the satin) will give you everything you want. I agree that several of the Bona's will add a snick of yellow when used. White Oak needs the sealant before the finish is applied because White Oak has tannin pull with water based polyurethanes....See MoreHardwood floor refinishing without a sealer?
Comments (19)Who was the contractor? We had a similar BAD experience with Floor Coverings International. The floors were in great condition we just wanted a different color stain. Wish I had just left them as they were. The floor never looked like it was sealed. We “lived” in our backyard in our camper to stay out of the way while they were working and trusted they’d do what needed to be done. First mistake. They sanded and stained. We saw these steps. Didn’t see any use a sealant if any type whatsoever. When it was done, I even called our salesman back saying they didn’t look finished/sealed. Less than a year later and the floors look TERRIBLE. We called them again last week to say something wasn’t right hoping they’d take the path of integrity and make it right. But NOPE. We are out 5 grand and have floors ways worse than they were before. I guess our only recourse is an attorney at this point. DO NOT USE FLOOR COVERIBGS INTERNATIONAL for refinishing your floors....See Morekitchenkrazed09
