Sorry, not food related.

For those of (North East) you who have just been hit by the big snow storm yesterday:

If you spray and wipe the snow shuffle with Pam, the inside of your snow blower with Pam, your job will go much easier.

I have also sprayed my satellite dish to keep snow from sticking. Nothing worse than going with the broom and step ladder in the middle of the storm because you have lost signal. Patty

Wonder if the flour/oil/shortening mixture would work.

Thanks for all the replies. Dont think we have Pam in Australia, so I havent been using that, just olive oil on my pan. I really think the "gunk" is a build up of olive oil. Flyingflower - great idea to phone manufacturer, I am going to have a look at my pan, after I have finished this, and do some investigating. I just wash the pan with hot water, and normal old dishwashing liquid. I will give a cut lemon a try. I will report back if I come up with anything interesting. I might ask a lady here, who knows how to remove every stain on anything in a house. She has written a book about it. In fact I have seen her book in the bookshop, I might go and just look it up in the shop ! Thanks for all the suggestions, nice to hear other people have such a problem with their frypan. My Analon Nonstick Pro pieces have been in use since I bought them at a department store back in '99. They look like the day I bought them. Most amazing nonstick I've ever owned. A little dot of dishsoap on a wet paper towel and I don't have to waste space in the dishwasher after cooking eggs and sausage. I also have both cast-iron pots made by AGA-Rayburn and cookware by Faulk Cuilinaire made of stainless-lined copper with cast-iron handles. Choosing the right pan for the job is understanding how they perform. The AGA cast iron casserole pans have a machined-flat bottom that brings things to a boil very quickly. The flat surface contact overcomes the slow thermal properties of cast iron in comparison to the Faulk copper cookware that isn't machined flat. Faulk's copper speed is best attained on an open-flame cooktop as their bottoms are not machined flat. So, if I bring a syrup to the hard-crack stage, it will take off faster with cast iron. But, it will also get burned/ruined faster because of thermal overshoot inherant to cast iron. While it takes longer to boil in the Faulk copper pan, it cools down or transitions much quicker because of the copper construction. Important when keeping something on the edge of scorching to get carmelization. Just not good when you are serving food banquet style as it cools down equally fast. Something that scorches easily, i.e. custards, sauces, might not burn as quickly with a slow heat-transfer of a cast iron pan. For eggs or cheese, I don't think you can beat Analon pro non-stick.

Sometimes the non-stick aspect degrades if accumulated grease is built up. Per Calphalon's instructions, you can clean with a plastic Dobie and see what happens. It is odd to lose non-stick qualities without visual cues -- i.e. scratches or specks gone that show where the coating has worn off. It is after all a physical coating on the surface that is super slippery. Calphalon is guaranteed for 10 years or life depending on the line so depending on the age of your product, you should contact Calphalon if it really continues to stick.

Hi & welcome to the CF! Hope to see you around as you're enjoying that new kitchen. SS & CI are the best, IMO. Although an aluminum stockpot is also very useful (inexpensive) for cooking large quantities of pasta, potatoes, or boiling lobster. SS will not stick if used properly. Some people have trouble with proteins sticking because they are unfamilar with a few basics. For example to cook a chop...first, put some heat under the pan and get it hot, then add a tablespoon or two of your preferred fat/oil and give that a second to get hot (will happen quickly because your pan is already hot)...now, add your seasoned chop(s). DO NOT TOUCH THEM. Allow them to cook without you fussing around trying to look underneath. You have to allow the maillard reaction to take place (results from a chemical reaction between an amino acid and a reducing sugar). When that has happened the chop will release on its own from the pan. After 2-3 minutes, lightly try to left the chop. If it shows resistence, leave it alone and try again in another minute. Flip and repeat. Any fond remaining on the bottom of the pan can be quickly deglazed with wine or broth & a makes for a yummy pan sauce/gravy. CI is hard to duplicate for non-stick and perfect browning. It is heavy though but, sometimes, the best choice. A non-stick pan is used by some for eggs (especially omelets) and sticky things like caramel. I don't own any non-stick and do just fine. /tricia

I have been using the Pam trick on my shovel since 2000 - the year I bought my house. Prior to that I lived in a condo and all the shovelling was done for me.

For the blower, Fluid Film in the chute and on the blades - especially with a heavy wet snow. Although Pam will work also.

I sprayed both the blower and shovel earlier today as the forecast tonite includes 6-12" of heavy, wet snow.

I have beef stew simmering in my Nesco and gearing up for snow clean up tommorrow.

I'd use WD-40, JB-80 ("twice as good" was their motto) or preferably silicone on the tools. And probably would rather eat it than PAM spray. I never see WD, JB or silicone crust up like PAM spray does.

WD-40 and JB-80 should work very well also.

In my case, the snow would be thrown over my herb garden and many ornamental plants. PAM probably would be a better idea.

Dcarch, I bet you used to spirit your mom's roll of waxed paper to the playground and crumple up a piece to rub on the slides to make them more slippery.

Oh, Ruthanna, I did that! I never went to the playground without waxed paper for the slide. We used it on the cellar door, too. First we waxed them, then we sat on a piece to slide down. You could really get moving.

After I bought Pam several years ago and saw what it does to pans I decided no way I wanted to have near my food. I was going to throw it out. DH took it for shovels and it works very well.

Not really. When I crumple up a piece of wax paper, I make mushrooms. :-)
