Trunks as coffee tables are called toe-smashers in my house. I've gone through three. :-) There's gotta be at least a little bit of room underneath for the toes to go. While storage is a nice idea I also found it a PITA since if I wanted to get something from the trunk I had to clear everything off the surface to open it. I would rather have drawers or even a lower shelf I could put flat baskets on (maybe those tailored leather baskets/deep trays?). I rather like something along the lines of the Map Table from Pottery Barn in a satin black painted finish, if you want to bring some of the black from the bar area over here - it's severe enough to play well with Mission furniture without being matchy-matchy at all: I don't think the ottoman-with-tray-for-"stuff" routine is a good idea for the sports-and-beer crowd. It's just asking for something to get tipped over. As for the glass rings, we have not had problems with tables and nightstands with good quality finishes - although I have my DH trained pretty well, there are a couple of my goonier friends who will set a sweating glass down on a table right next to the coaster. We put our feet up on the coffee table too (barbarians! LOL)... this is why I bought an old table with the top wrapped in old copper sheeting, because the more it gets bashed up the better it looks! ;-) However, if this is expected to be a major, major problem, a tile-topped table is right in line with the Mission flavor of the furniture. This one is quite pricey but it gets the general point across very well:

Well, I think it's hard to know whether the room will be overly crowded or cluttered without knowing the size of the room or seeing a picture, but to me, and this may be just my own opinion, but I think if you have a coffee table and an ottoman in the same room, the coffee table should be larger than the ottoman. Does that make sense to anyone else but me? Also, I just wonder if you even need a coffee table with such a big ottoman. You could put a tray on top of the ottoman and still have room for feet!

Excellent job! Very creative way to transform an old coffee table. The fabric goes well with the other things in your room. Thank you for photos and descriptions of how you did this. I have upholstered in the past, but never tufted. I may try it someday. Singer Upholstery Basics is one of the books I used to learn from. Put just the one above the TV for now. That might work with just one piece because it looks like the same width as the TV, which is a good thing :) When your console comes in and you hang the art, we can experiment with having a vase at one end to see how it looks. You aren't restricted to just wall art. You just don't want to get too busy on the wall and console. So some of this will be trial and error to get the right look. As to the love seat: it does need to move to the left if it stays in the room. If you had a smaller end table there you could probably pick up 6 to 10 inches. If both end tables were smaller then you could move the sofa down too and pick up more room on the love seat wall. Are you keeping the chair in the room? It would be ideal if you could keep the sofa on the long wall and the chair on the wall where the love seat is now and find another place in your home for the love seat. But I understand if that isn't in your plan.
