what do you think of these parmesan cups?

I decided to do a trial one since I bought parm- reg and it was soooo expensive - didn't want to make a bunch and have them not turn out. This is what I got and I kind of like it - but I'm not sure if it's too lacy...what do you think? should I make them thicker? I draped them over a ramekin to give you an idea on size...

Oh, Tracey, I like that a lot, I'd do them just that way. They're prettier than the thicker ones, but are they sturdy enough?

I just wanted to report my results of my experiment. I did containers for the front of my house with carpet of snow alyssum and white cosmos. Only the alyssum germinated. I put all my Cosmo seeds in these containers so it looks like I am going to have to buy white cosmos this year. I did containers for my back patio with petite yellow marigold, cosmic orange cosmos, and royal carpet alyssum. Again only the alyssum germinated. The same marigold seeds that I sowed in separate cups germinated just fine. So I will transplant some of the marigolds into these patio containers. I've never seen the orange cosmos at the nursery, so I will have to look for something tall and yellow/orange to add to the containers. On the bright side - I will not have to buy alyssum.

Sure Janet... I don't really measure for bread puddings but here's the general idea. SAVORY BUTTERNUT SQUASH, APPLE, & BACON BREAD PUDDING Excellent served with pork loin or chops, also delicious as a brunch selection. Ingredients: 2 Butternut Squash (Washed, Peeled, & Diced into 1" Cubes) 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil 5 Large Eggs 3 Cups Milk Fresh Sage (4-6 Leaves, Finely Minced) Â½ Teaspoon Cumin 2 Teaspoons Fresh Thyme (leaves stripped & Minced) Â½ Teaspoon Salt 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper 6-7 Slices Day-Old White Bread, Crusts Removed & Cut into 1" Cubes 1 Granny Smith Apple, Peeled, Cored, & Diced into Â½" Cubes 5 Slices Bacon, Cooked until crispy, & Crumbled 1.) Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. 2.) Wash, peel, & dice into 1" cubes the squash. Place squash cubes into medium-sized bowl & toss with the 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil. Place cubes on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Roast until just barely fork tender, about 30-40 minutes. When roasted, remove the baking sheet from the oven & allow to cool on the baking sheet for about 30 minutes. 3.) While the squash is roasting, in a large mixing bowl beat the eggs until they turn a light yellow. Add the milk, sage, cumin, thyme, salt, & pepper. Beat until the eggs, milk, & spices are well blended. 4.) Add the bread cubes to the egg/milk mixture & using a wooden spoon gently push the bread cubes down into the egg/milk mixture to evenly coat all of the cubes with liquid. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap & refrigerate until the squash is roasted & thoroughly cool. 5.) Fry the bacon until crisp. Allow to drain on paper towels. When cool enough to handle, crumble the bacon. Place the bacon in a small dish, cover, & refrigerate until needed. 6.) When the sweet potatoes are thoroughly cool, reheat the oven to 350 degrees. 7.) Remove the egg/milk/bread mixture from the refrigerator & add the sweet potato cubes. Gently fold to evenly distribute. 8.) Peel, core, & dice the Granny Smith apple into Â½" cubes. Add the apple cubes to the mixture & gently fold to incorporate. 9.) Pour the mixture into greased 9"x12" oven-proof baking dish & spread the mixture around the pan to evenly distribute. Top with the crumbled bacon. You can also top with buttered bread crumbs mixed with the bacon. 10.) Bake in a bain marie at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes, or until a dinner knife inserted about 1" from the center comes out clean. 11.) Allow to cool & set for five minutes before serving. Yield: 8 Servings /tricia PS I freeze after baking. Works great & reheats very well.

We have a lot of clay here too, it's really a pain when you go through a drought followed by heavy rains because it can move a lot under those conditions. If the decking is demo'd they can indeed drill dowels into the pool walls, it won't affect the plaster because they're drilling into the back side of the walls. Unless they use a bit that is too long and it goes all the way through! Here are some pics so you can see what I'm describing, in this first picture they've set the steel and about every 36" they left a rod extending vertically. They will later be bent down and will be cast into the decking. In this picture you can see that they've bent the bars down and then placed additional reinforcing for the deck over them. This was after it had rained and the bars were partially into the sand, but before the decking was poured the bars were placed on chairs to raise them above the sand. Ideally the reinforcing should be centered in the decking slab. You can also see in this picture where they installed dowels into the existing sidewalk in the bottom of the picture. They drilled into the sidewalk and installed dowels about every 36". This is similar to what they should have done on your flatwork. This is a finished pic, mainly to show the mastic joints. There should be a mastic joint between the flatwork and pool coping, and also between the new decking and existing decking or sidewalks (if there are any). In our case you can see (barely) a mastic joint on the backside of the coping and also where the decking meets the existing sidewalk (existing sidewalk is to the right, it's a slightly darker color).

Jennmonkey, the $30 comment was in the context of the story - that she was always asking for more. I didn't say anything like the rest of what you mention. I don't know where you got it from or why you used it to defend Lori. Lori didn't even say anything like that. I said it to the woman because I paid her $25 for the run, but she was asking for more. There is nothing in this story about the size of jobs. Nor is what Lori indicated that I am wasting money and time when I can do them myself. It came from nowhere except her own intention. NyceFarm, you and Uxorial asked the same thing, which is a good question. Because I never saw her at work or saw a paystub, all I can say is I have called her in the wee hours of the morning only because I knew she was at work. At her house, her husband answers the phone if I call after 11pm to let me know he hates calls at that hour LOL. I wouldn't dare call their house at 1 or 2 in the morning. A couple times she came around 3 or 4am to pick up that morning's deliveries. That's the time she got off work on those nights and came here so as not to have to make the trip again. I'm only 3 or 4 miles off her route, whereas she lives quite a ways away. It was better for her to come at that hour than to come back this way at 8am. Also, she directed me to a website for certification last year. She needed me to download some forms because she didn't have a computer. I realize none of that is proof though. So, I guess the answer is I really don't know, but I can't see all the charades either. LindaKathy, nope she didn't pay cash. She paid by debit card. I expected she would stop at the place and pay, but she preferred not having to stop. I wouldn't ask anyone to use their credit card, but that she did was fine with me. She called with the confimation number and brought the balance of the money the next day, less the $150. This was three weeks ago. Is that you were asking? Kathleen, that makes a lot of sense. As far as being tired, she fell alseep on my sofa or laid down in the boys' room several times after getting off work. One morning, she got off at 7 and was supposed to come here to pickup an order. It was to be delivered at that funeral home two miles from her house. She didn't show up and called around 8 to tell me she fell asleep in the nursing home's parking lot. I could understand that happening, knowing how often I work through the night. However, I don't want to give the impression that she was working so much for me. As I mentioned, business was way down the last year, so I didn't have to call her all that steadily.

oh good. I thought they were pretty too. I think they'll hold up - if I just fill them at the last minute.

It's a spinach salad that goes in them it's on the link. I'll wait to make them tomorrow afternoon so they stay crisp.

Thanks Nancy. I read through some of the reviews and decided to make them a tiny bit bigger than muffin cups and tried draping them over a ramekin. It worked great. I bought a hunk of parm-reg and shredded it myself - then spread it out in a circle on my silpat just til I couldn't see through it in any spots - it baked in my oven about 9 mins. It probably cooled about 1 minute or less before I got if off the silpat with a spatula - it was still pliable but not drooping or breaking.

Others added other cheese to get it to hold together better but mine is totally parm-reg.

I was able to pick it up and it seemed pretty sturdy to me.

My favorite restaurant serves a spinach salad in parm cups, but not nearly as nice as yours. A word of warning--you will be so thirsty later. These are so good, but put a carafe of water by your bed.

Those are beautiful but won't the dressing leak out through the lacy part? Of course maybe that doesn't matter!

So, I'm wondering what you could fill these with other than salad. I'm thinking they would make a great appetizer item if you made them smaller, say draped in a miniature muffin tin (or over the underside of them?) and fill with.... well, what would taste good and be solid enough to stay inside?

I'm having a girls only martini party next weekend and if this works well, and if I can think of something to fill it with, I might make these!

They look beautiful. A freind of mine (that's actually a lurker on here) made that exact recipe for a luncheon at her house and everyone loved the salad and raved about the cups. It's a great recipe. She said the cups were pretty easy, and I've been meaning to try them, but never have.

Hi Joann, that did occur to me, but I think that since it's a light vinaigrette, we won't be using tons of dressing and I'll spoon everything in right before serving and serve them on a plate - it'll be OK? I'll loet you know! LOL!

May, you've got me thinking....too bad my mind is occupied with this party....will be in the back of my mind though

Sharon, my menu criteria changed a bit. Will's concert was last weekend, so tomorrow didn't have to be all prepped in advance...so I went back to the drawing board and this is what I came up with...( I had already served this group beef bourgignon...and beef wellington...and one doesn't like things with cheese...and another not seafood...)

I could not find concord grapes so could not make sol's recipe....

we will start with warm spiced bar nuts, blood orange martinis, toasted crostini with ricotta and oven dried tomatoes, and asparagus wrapped in proscuitto and drizzled with balsamic.

Then we will have the spinach salad in frico cups

Then Hungarian Goulash w/ smoked paprika with dumplings

And for dessert, homemade chocolate raspberry ice cream.

And I don't think I need to say pinot noir and malbec and pinot grigio....LOL
