Comments (53)I love the tureen too - especially since it has a lid. Too bad you didn't get the accompanying note. Was the tureen local or handmade? I'm thinking it is probably both. I love making soup, and the soup bases will be a great help. I haven't tried Penzey's (only Minor's) soup bases, but I imagine that are very flavorful. I frequently use soup base when making jambalaya or dirty rice, in addition to soups. I'm looking forward to finding out what soup recipes you will use from your new book! Sounds delightful. Comments (5)I too like the PB style and had a similar budget. For my LR, I purchased Lee Industries (manufacturer not retailer) which coincidentally can be ordered from Crate and barrell. They do have a 25% off sale once a year and I think it in October which is a significant savings. I actually ordered from North Carolina b/c I live close to NYC and my local retailer was charging me over $2K more. I bought a sofa, loveseat and 2 chais in medium grade fabric for about $5K. www.leeindustries.com For Bedroom furniture, I chose Durham furniture. In this case my local retailer was having a 40% off sale so I got a bed, 2 sidetables and a 5 drawer chest for about $2600. Another manufacturer I looked at was Orville and Mead which I think is actually owned ny Durham. www.orvilleandmead.com. Solid wood furniture - great quality - made in Canada. I can't help you find a local retailer as I'm not familiar with CA. Some of the big box retailers in my area include Ethan Allen, Thomasville, Safaveigh Home, Henredon, Domain, EJ Audi. However all the sites listed above can help you find a retailer in your area. Good luck and congrats on your new home!...See MoreRowe Furniture: Good or Bad?
Comments (119)We purchased the Sylvie Sectional through our designer earlier this year. It finally arrived after 6 months and within weeks it looked awful. The fabric pills and is even coming apart at some seams. The cushions do not hold their shape and we already had them replaced by the company as a "one time favor." The seat cushions are so unsupportive and just sink. It's truly embarrassing to have this couch when all of our other furniture is so nice. People ask us if it is our old couch since our remodel. I'm not exaggerating when I say that our IKEA sectional lasted us and was more comfortable than this sectional that we spent over 7k on. We are so disappointed and left with no recourse. I will never again buy a Rowe or Robin Bruce product. This was supposed to last us 10 years and it's barely made it a few months....See Morenewbie needs LOTS of help pls! Comments (18)I agree with everyone else that the tv over the fireplace might be too high. Someone said there are issues with ghost pictures and with heat from the fire. I would probably look into doing the entertainment wall where you have the armoire and use a tv stand with bookcases on either side. You could use baskets on the bookcase shelves, along with accents in whichever colors you choose. Because I've been there, done that, I suggest making sure the bookcases are attached to the wall in case a little one decides to climb them. :) As for your couch, if you like the bones of the couch, why not see about getting some foam inserts cut to replace the insides of the cushions? Also, most department stores sell slipcovers for couches. Wally world's quality isn't that great, but theirs run about $100 and they are washable. If you sew, it's fairly simple to make a slipcover yourself. I would probably look for furniture on Craig's List, especially the bookcases and tv stand. Even if the woods weren't exact matches, the price will be much less than buying new and paint covers multitudes of defects. Saving on the furniture would allow you to put a little more into the rugs and accessories, although I see rugs all the time on CL as well. Adding more greenery (I'm jealous of your green thumb!) and some accent pieces will make it feel more homey for now. As you add in the other things, slipcovers, rugs, bookcases, you will see it all come together. However, I don't think it looks bad right now, at all. Your home has a great layout; you have some really nice pieces in there, and everything isn't too matchy-matchy. I'd feel comfortable sitting on your couch or having a cup of coffee at the kitchen table. To me, that's the true test of a home. If I don't feel like I could touch anything in the house, I won't come back. I'd visit you more than once! :)...See Moreweizilla
