Two bad days in a row
Comments (9)Well, I'm with you, Shelley, unfortunately. I'll know more after Nov. 8 but I think I have blown my knee out again - torn medial meniscus (cartilidge). At this point, I'm self diagnosing but I've been through this before and this is worse than the one 2 years ago. I don't know when or how I did it but I cannot walk without severe pain. I managed to get some mega pain killers from one doctor but I need to see the orthopod really quickly. Here we go again. His office told me I need a referral again and I would be able to see him sometime between January and June (seriously) after I get the referral. If I thought it was an emergency, I could go and wait for him in emerg. I phoned emerg and the nurse, after laughing her head off, transferred me to the cast clinic. Of course they will see me but the earliest I can get to see him is Nov. 20 and I'm on the cancellation list. I did manage to get an MRI booked (on a cancellation) for Nov. 8. In the meantime, I'm keeping it iced and elevated for most of the time. Looks like I'll be in for a lonnnngggg winter. I'm so glad to hear that your daughter is OK, Shelley. That's a scary type of accident. I've got my 15 and 16 yr old DSs going for their learners' permit these days. The 15 yr. old got his and the 16 yr. old failed. Pleasant times in the homefront these days, I'll tell ya!! Well, let's keep our chins up and keep smiling. Sometimes that's all you can do. Shauna...See Morerow row row your boat (of seeds)
Comments (4)Thanks Mike, I do understand the seeds won't be true, I don't mind. I figure, more chance of a small tree with seeds from one than with seeds from a known-larger variety however. H2O2's benefits for germination of seeds (not just plumeria) has been documented very well, both in this forum and in many other places including academic research - just Google. Certainly it's not a requirement, but I like to increase my chances when it's easy to do so. The boat method I'm less sure about, but I've read enough people using it that I figured I'd try - after all, this is fun for me, I'm not farming plumeria for any other reason. Kind of like the whole "bury an egg" method of rooting a cutting, which sounds really strange to me but so many people swear by it and have great looking trees to show. I have a few more of these seeds and may try potting some in media as well. Yeah, my timing is bad for getting seeds just now, I'm aware. I do appreciate your insights though, and look forward to spring! Daniel...See MoreBoyles Furniture, NC ? Good-Bad? Still in business?
Comments (14)Back in 2005, we purchased a Hancock and Moore Leather sectional. We had an HM recliner and knew it was superior quality. A neighbor here in CA told us she and her husband and flown to NC to furnish their home and that the majority of the furniture was from Boyles. She highly recommended them. My best friend, who lives in NC and said he thought they were good too. We worked with a rep in the Hickory store, all over the phone, once we had researched exactly what we wanted and had sat on the very same model in our hometown. We priced the same sectional and leather grade at the most competitive furniture dealer in the SF Bay Area. The total cost for everything, including shipping was close to $8,000 (no tax) at the time. Our local dealer was $500 more and of course, tax would be included here. So we took the plunge and went with Boyles, never setting foot in their store. The sectional and foot rest/table arrived on time as promised and we were very happy with our purchase. About five or six years ago, our cushions were wearing down and we knew HM would send us new ones, at no extra charge, if necessary. When I called Boyles, they asked me for the order number/receipt etc., and I explained I could not find it. I told them that the tag number attached to the sectional should ID enough for them to trace it to me. But, they claimed they had gone through a computer conversion and sales made before the current time, when I was speaking to them, had all been lost in the conversion. I felt like that was, extremely poor business and thought I'd find the bill of sale, but never did. i don't remember calling HM at the time, but I should have, even though I didn't have any paperwork to back up my purchase. But I'm sure the tag number would tell them that the order went through Boyles. So here we are in 2017 and I'm pursuing this again. Unfortunately, HM doesn't have an email system to make any specific requests, just enough for me to supply contact info. I let our SF Bay Area competitor know what has happened and even though I didn't make the purchase through them, they are willing to go to bat for me and contact HM! I do have great rapport with them and have made some past purchases with them, as has my brother. While I can't say what the outcome will be, I bet Boyles wouldn't do that for a customer! They certainly blew me off, after I had made the most expensive furniture purchase we ever made, with them! Hopefully HM will come through for us. Had I fone through safer route with our dealer out here and spent the extra $500, it would have been worth it! Lesson learned!...See MoreAnyone have Robin Bruce Furniture by Rowe?
Comments (3)Run a search over at the Furniture Forum. If I remember correctly, Rowe's skirted/slipcovered pieces have a pretty good reputation, but there are a LOT of complaints about their unskirted/footed stuff. Google them and you'll find a fair number of consumer complaints. We decided against Rowe for that reason. Perhaps they're trying to go a bit upscale now?...See Moredejavudes
