Kentucky Derby -here I am!!!

Hi friends, First I want to thank all of you for your input in helping me choose a dress, it really helped. My dress is perfect and I cant wait to wear it, although it is supposed to rain so I might get drenched. We arrived in Kentucky by 10 am and went straight to Dee's. I finally got my hat, what was I thinking that I would not be able to find one in this town. I think you will all agree on my hat choice once you see it. It is a Audrey Hepburn hat, but it has a headband inserted inside it so it sits on my head comfortably and I wont have "hat hair". It is black, slanted to the side, with a large ivory bow in front, I had them put a couple of yellow orchids in front (small) and wispy black feathers and one large feather from one side to the other. It looks so nice. Oh and I bought the pink hat I emailed to you, looks nice and I bought it as is. I am going to return the other pink one I bought in Macys when I get home. You all made this job finding all these outfits easier than not as I was going to get chiffon and ALL of you were right. I am comfortable and happy and by the way Mission Impazible got the 14 post which is great, he now has to win!!! Thanks again. Mary

Maybe you could fix up an umbrella to resemble a Kentucky Derby hat? LOL!

I have always (30 yrs) grown Kentucky Wonders. My father grew them when I was a child. I also grow a bean called Burpee Early Riser which became Kwintus which became Northeaster, as well as a couple of others like annelino (spelling?) Last year I finally tasted each bean raw and decided I really like the Kentucky wonder best. I've never tried the Kentucky Blue, just saw it this year at Pinetree, and might try some. I also noticed last year that the Kentucky Wonders were favored by the Jap. beetles. They ate those leaves before going to the other beans. I now want to know if the Kent. Blues are also preferred or if (hopefully) the beetles might not like them as well.

Butter mixed with chipoltes in adobo sauce (just a bit) is a nice butter for those who like things spicy. I've done as Linda describes, letting people roll the corn in butter. Another option is to provide each person with a slice of bread, you butter the bread and then roll the corn on the bread. The hot corn melts the butter, the bread absorbs the melted butter no mess and the butter on the table stays firm and neat. You use the bread for your next cob and to touch up the corn when you want more butter.

Well, did the demo get started or what? C'mon now. You know you must share the blow by blow (yes, pun intended)! I'm chuckling when you say that I have "just a few adjustments." I wish! The designer is coming by tomorrow with new plans. From the draft he emailed me tonight, it looks like my old base cabs are gone! Uppers and pantry must be pulled and reconfigured. Range is being installed on the opposite of the kitchen, so new gas line. Plus, I'm installing new 240 elec line for the range, hood and ductwork. And, that's only for starters. I'm sure I'll be dropping by your fab new kitchen for brunch way before you get to mine. LOL! Way to go on the faucet!

I'm thrilled things are working out for you. I can't wait tio see you on TV.

I'm praying it doesn't rain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And I buried a head of garlic on the north side of our oak tree in the front yard....(It's an Italian thing.LOL)

So excited to see how the hat turned out. The 14 post is a great starting gate and with 20-1 early morning odds, I plan on buying a win-place-show ticket. Enjoy the whole weekend of fun!

Your hat sounds wonderful, we can't wait to see to see the pictures !!

I'm going to a derby day in Houston; but I've been told only half the crowd there wears hats and fancy outfits, so I will be underdressed. I had no choice, I only found out tuesday that I was going. I shopped that day but turned up nothing.

Have a fabulous time and I'm sure you'll look amazing...I'll be crossing fingers and pressing thumbs that all the horses come out safely and there's no slipping/sliding in the rain if it comes.

Hi friends. Today was a great day, a very long day and my feet hurt so much I had to take my shoes off and walk without them for a while. The weather was absolutely beautiful! What an experience. First we were able to go into the paddock that is where all the owners go along with their horses. First my husband was only able to go but then an extra ticket came along and I was there too. Our horse was Funny Feeling, the 4th race number 10. And guess what she won!! Everything happened very fast, we were escorted to the winner's circle and they took a picture of all of us. When I get my pictures I'll download them. A picture of our horse winning will be sent to us. The purse was only $50,000 but what a race. Pete and I got a picture of us holding the trophy. By the way when I picked up that hat at Dees' (what a terrible experience) my hat was not done right, it took them 3 times to fix it, still not right but I'm accepting what I cannot change. I didnt get the pink hat I wore the one I bought at Macys and I got compliments all day long. So I've learned no stressing about sill stuff. Tomorrow will be a terrible weather day but I'm under cover but my sons and soninlaw and nephew are not. We bought them rain gear, etc. Talk to you tomorrow. The race starts at 5:45 but the commentators will begin at 4. Hope we win or come close and if not the experience was worth a lot. Thank you everyone!

Congrats on winning today's race. As I placed my bets on the Derby Race I attempted to recall the name of your horse in today's race (Of course, if I'd written it down instead of saving it to memory....) and I just couldn't remember the name.

Shoot! I'd have won. Oh, well, there's tomorrow.

I'll bet you looked fantastic in the Winner's Circle. You wore white with a pink hat and pink/multi color sandals?

What are you doing about shoes for tomorrow, with the rain and all? Tomorrow is the yellow dress with the black hat? Maybe black pumps? Any way, just smile and enjoy the experience.

All your friends here are cheering for #14 !!!

You bet we are cheering you on! I have set my TV box to record every single thing having to do with tomorrow's race!

Go Mission Impazable. That name is easy for me to remember because I serve on the 'Mission Possible' committee. LOL! (I didn't know you owned another horse.)
