Pellet insert smells/smokes???

Hi, we just installed a pellet stove insert in our fireplace and there is a very noticable "campfire" smell. It does not appear to be smoking, there is no obvious smoke, just a very strong smell.

Our fireplace is 1906 and has cracks in it so we ran flexible pipe from the stove all the way through the top of the chimney (2 floors) so there shouldn't be any problem. The chimney was cleaned prior to installation also, and I did notice that when it was just the fireplace there was a strong "burned" smell coming from the fireplace opening as well.

I am wondering if what we can do? We really need this insert for heat. Will the smell dissipate? Is the heat from the stove pipe causing things to heat up and smell?

I am baffled and would appreciate anyones input or advise!!

Thanks!!
