Omg I do love cars. Faron, we'd have a great time admiring together, except I'd fight with you to let me drive!

I had to rent a car this week and I begged DH to find me an Escalade for "just the day" even though it would sit at my work for 8 hours and in my garage for 12 lol.

He didn't see my humor; he let me "upgrade" to a Ford Taurus. (Shhhh, it was a nice fully loaded car....but I pouted to him all the while!) My commute is 35 miles but it's easily an hour and a half each way (traffic bleeps on my highway...). Can you say negative MPH lol?!?!

I would love a Cadillac (any shape, any style) or a Lincoln Navigator. I have no need for one, except to admire it and love it.

I just looked at that Caddie again; I swear it's winking at me...

My father was a serious car nut and three of the five girls caught the bug too. I was certainly guilty of frequent bouts of upgrade fever UNTIL I met my BMWs. LOL! My second X5 is sitting in my driveway, begging to go for a ride. I've owned a few high end cars but I doubt I will ever own anything but a BMW from here on out.

The X5 4.4i makes freeways out of narrow, twisty roads. It's V8 can leave most any car in the dust. It literally feels like it hovers over the roads. LOL! It is the most comfortable car ever for passengers. My car of choice for long distance travel. Faron, I dare you drive a BMW M series before you buy your sport wagon. LOL!

Parma, now you are talking! Aston Martin? Oh yes! Our friends just bought a brand new Maserati. Now that is a nice car too!

All that said, I am trying to talk Robert into taking my X5 and trading in his 3 series for a brand new 2010 Prius. I miss driving Max's around town.

I'm a hot rod girl, too. LOVE me some muscle car. I had a '66 El Camino once, wish I still had that puppy. My dream car is a '68 Camaro SS.

At least I had a "normal" 2009 CTS on Maui last June! "Fresh off the boat" the rental agent said!

That car is a beauty, Faron, no question! How DID you get that car off the pavement and have it stay so darn clean? I had a dark car once. It looked great for about a half hour after being washed. Yes, I live in the country.

BTW, the X5 would be great in Fargo's winter climate. The seat and steering wheel heaters are the best! Well, the rear view mirror heaters are great too...

golddust I agree with you on the X5 - I think it's just about perfect - except for one thing - the run flat tires. I've been lusting after the X5 for years and I think it's the sexiest SUV out there. But I just traded my Lexus GX in on a Porsche Cayenne which I think is the second sexiest SUV but it has real tires.

What run flat tires? I don't use the run flat tires. LOL! Since the sport model comes with two different size rims (whose tires suck in snow), we have an extra set of regular size X5 BMW rims that we use - with regular tires. I admit the original rims and tires have taken up a ten year residency in our garage. We are always meaning to put them back on in the summer but never do. Lately I have been thinking about selling them.

While I've noticed some buzz about warranty questions if the tires are replaced with regular tires, our dealer has never mentioned a word to us about our tires and this is our second X5. No run flats outside the ones on the original rims in the garage.

That said, the Cayenne is a real drooler. I *love* the sexy rounded looks. When I see one, my DH says, "Watch the road!," as I mutter, "That is such a beautiful car..." I am spoiled by BMWs generous service program, which has kept our cars in brand new condition for an additional $3K up front.

DHs 2003 BMW has not cost us a dime to maintain, other than tires. Even the wiper blade refills are free under the extended warranty program. Our son's 2004 Prius costs us more and Prius is one of the cheapest cars out there to maintain.

I love cars. I may be the only woman in the Drs office who reads 'Car and Driver' magazines over 'Good Housekeeping' every time. It's not even a close competition.

Oh Faron, that Cadillac is beautiful! What color is it, like a purple/burgundy?? I'd want to drive one of those around in my own neighborhood so everyone would think it was mine, nevermind when on vacation! (DH says driving a car like that is like "driving a couch" it's so smooth and comfortable lol.)

Oh Golddust, I agree! I love cars so much too! When the autoshow comes to town, I am the first to tell DH the dates and get the tix! I love to sit in all kinds of cars and check out the features, esp. without any sales pressure!

The BMW X6 is a sleek looking vehicle too! I love the white one with tinted windows!

We have 72 degree weather here in Boston today....how come I don't have a convertible!

Oh and Faron......DH likes the thought of that Cadillac girl too but not even close lol!

Ah golddust - our dealer told us he'd look the other way if we used regular tires. However he said that if there were any questions that the non-standard tires contributed to a repair then BMW would disallow any warranty coverage. He did whisper under his breath that we could do what you're doing - buy another set of rims and tires and use them. And then if we had to bring the car in we could first switch out the tires and reinstall the runflats. That was way more work then we were willing to do.

But maybe some day.

The first thing we did was to switch out the rims and tires. We used BMW rims, just the ones that are standard on the 3.0s. We have never switched out tires/rims before a service or repair and service has never ever even mentioned a problem. Maybe it's like the military's 'Don't ask, don't tell' policy. LOL! We never even thought to ask and they have stood behind both X5s.

Course, we live where there is slippery snow and our dealer knows this. (It doesn't snow where our dealer is.)
