Just anybody's input-
I asked a certain person if they'd send me 2 mature rooted cuttings for postage. They replied yes, they would send them priorty for $10.00. I said that seemed steep- & told her that I have sent 2 whole ROOTED PLANTS in a priority tube for $10.00. When I explained it to this person, they said that I was accusing them of making a profit & they didn't think that I DESERVED the cuttings(!) I just said fine.... I'm not disapointed about not getting the cuttings- just the attitude of that person... (I have a WHOLE box of cuttings coming from Brenda from last night's contest for $15.00, so I'm not lacking cuttings.) .......Oh well- I'm kind of deflated after seeing how great everyone has been last night at the newbie's contest- Maybe you just have to laugh it off! Most everybody has been awesome on this sight- and- tomorrow's another day!

Kasha77 - I've found that a lot of people simply use the flat rate boxes which are $9.80. They don't seem to realize they can use the same size box shipped priority for a lot less if it's under a certan weight. Since I wasn't privy to your explanation, I just wondered if maybe this was the case. (And, some people get defensive when things are explained.)

As far as my wants ---- EVERYTHING! I'll be watching the forum and exchange forum for offerings for postage since I am new to brugs.

She said she was shipping priority, but was charging me for the box & her time. (OK- then- call it shipping & handling) Priority boxes are free (I just ordered 100 of them online at USPS & am having them shipped to my home.. You can even have the mailman pick up your box from your home too, did you know that?-(in these days when gas is so high- or you might not even be able to find a gas station with gas?) Sorry if I'm so fired up- I'm not a drama queen, guess I got too spoiled by Brenda & a bunch of my other Brug Buddies.... LOL!;)

It's late and I am at work, bored to tears and maybe I should keep my mouth shut, sometimes I don't know how though. I don't think $10 was way out of line for 2 mature plants, think about plant, roots and probably some soil also. And if they tagged on a buck or two for gas to the postoffice thats ok too. Like you said gas prices like they are and all, not everybody lives right down the street from the postoffice. If it were a trade and they were getting something out of the deal I think a little $$ for the gas would be asking too much. Ok I will go back to my quiet little corner now and keep my mouth shut.

Are these all types of datura? I have only heard of Wrightii, which I think is what I grow...I planted it so long ago I don't remember. Do you know where I can purchase some of these seeds? I bought some purple from Jung Seed in late summer and they are about 3 inches tall...very slow to germinate. I don't know if I will get seeds before the winter sets in. If anyone knows where I can get these other varieties please let me know. I planted Jympson weed this summer and they bloomed at about 2 inches tall. Then they grew and grew and took over the yard. I read they can become invasive so I pulled them all out.Below is a pic of what I have grown for years.

is everyone getting ready for winter ? i heard up north it is already getting cold !!! this week , we will do a final cut on our brugs, poor guys will go from 6 ft to 6 inches tall .lol lol lol the feilds that once had 1000's of flowers will soon be an empty feild of brug bases .lol lol i really hate this time of year !!!!!!

anyone in florida want to adopt this white boy for the winter ? ? ? lol lol will work, for sunshine and heat !!! lol lol

I got off work early today & decided to pay my neighbor a visit- She & her sister were sipping sweet tea on the davenport- After discussing politics et al- the topic trailed off, so I asked her about her 10' noid orange brug- "You can have as much as you want!" she said- we all jumped up & went outside. The first thing I checked for was the scent- YEP- lily of the valley like fragrance, and this is only at 4:30 pm.. She said it's heavenly at night!Phyllis, & her sister Becky, whom I will now nickname the "Hack" sisters- tore into that plant like they were trying to get rid of it! WOW! We loaded up the back of my SUV, & then we ambled around her yard- when I asked her what another plant was- (she's not one for botanical names)-
she gave me some general name & they just grabbed a shovel & ruthlessly tore out giant onion like bulbs with huge straplike leaves & red lily like flower buds on it.. ( I could just imagine the terror on her plants' faces as we approached!) I asked them if they ever heard of huge elephant leaves- & they said their neighbor Max had some... When they introduced me to him, they told him what I wanted- & he promptly handed both of the "Hack" sisters a shovel, & they quickly went to work. (I wish I could have gotten the shovel, I would have been kinder!) I came away with huge Alocassia plants, & another smaller bunch called Persian Palm- (have to look that one up). Very Lovely!
Needless to say both of these retired "young" ladies are probably the most generous folks that I have met since I've moved down here from upstate NY. I came home with my jeeps' back door open- plants hanging out, & a great warm feeling in my heart as I scrambled to get everything into the ground before the quickly approaching sunset..

I'm sorry to say that to everyone who would like cuttings of Heloise & Snowbanks, my offer is closed. the poor things aren't very tall, Heloise is about 2', but she's throwing suckers that I can take off. (Snowbanks is only 8 inches- I thought I was getting a 1 gal. plant, but instead- So I will be giving cuttings of them to the folks that I have already contacted. Next year will be better, hopefully!

Got home from work to find 3 badly assalted clumps of some kind of plant (square stemmed, blue flowers, very fragrant- humming bird magnet, they say) Also 1 HUGE Beautyberry bush, just starting to wilt from laying in the sun all day.... I promptly set about to get them in the ground before the sun set.... How can I ever outdo these gals?

Wow Kasha! Lucky you! The square stemmed plant is some kind of salvia. I just learned ALL salvias have square stems.Sounds beautiful! Love the Beautyberry. The Hack sisters don't want to be outdone. They are pleased as punch to find another gardening friend!

I offered one sister a Brug this spring, & she shrinked back in horror, & said that they get too big, & that she had one already.... As I found out! Oh well- I can always bake them some bread!

Love teas and herbs. Oh and do I ever so much love candles. Another reason why I can never wait for cooler weather to come. Got them burning everywhere!

I would like to get into scrap booking...When I retire rofl ...I can organize the pictures into beautiful books. Actually I thought those would make great presents for family.

Its time to revive this thread because the cutting has begun -SNIP, SNIP. Its sad that the growing season is over for me, but the trading part has begun and that is always lots of fun.

AS I promised, After I fulfill my trades, I will work my way thru the first thread, then if I still have plants left, will work my way thru this one. I hope everyone has made some good trades - I know I have. I should have plants for postage as well so if you've posted with nothing to trade, I'll contact you if I have plants available.

Just wanted to give you a BIG hug for that Frosty Pink that you gave me- it grew HUGE! Probably 40x BIGGER than the double white Candida that you also gave me! Anyway- Frosty just started blooming 2 nights ago- then I today got a frost warning, so I had to cut her down! I took many GREAT mature cuttings from her. She had so many unopened blooms, so sad!

I am preparing them for rooting in my garage til I can contact everyone who wanted them- ALSO- I will most likely have plenty left if someone out there still wants some for postage & handling! By the way- I really love Phyllis, my neighbor- she is the true picture of pure Southern charm & hospitality! Last summer when her field full of iris' stopped blooming, she asked me if I wanted any, cuz'she was thinning them out & was going to throw them away anyway... so I said sure! So she drives her John Deere lawn mower over with a wagon full of iris in it, & dumped them on my driveway! I couldn't deal with all of them so I planted many & threw the rest in the woods & covered them with leaves to protect them from the heat.. later, my sweet sister in law came over,- & went away with tons! Still have more left there.... I will probably be trading them off next spring.... I am blessed! Friends are the sweetest riches one could have!

Kasha - My candida double white is a much slower grower too than Frosty Pink. At least their first season is over so next year they'll be more mature and ready to rock and roll! I didn't get candida double white blooms this year either but keeping my fingers crossed for next year. We're supposed to get near freezing temps here tonite too, so I've been cutting and moving and getting ready for it myself. I still more to do but hopefully will start shipping cuttings in a week or so. So you'll have new brug babies to fuss over! LOL....
