Anyone have experience with high gloss laminate flooring?

Will be building a new home soon and had my laminate flooring all picked out from builddirect.com until I found out they added some new high gloss laminate flooring that looks more like real hardwood. Has anyone ever used any brand of high gloss laminate before? Will is show scratches, dust and dirt more than a regular matte finish laminate? I am very curious since this is sort of a new product to the market and I love the high gloss look but not sure if it will hold up to my 3 kids and small dogs. Any suggestions and photos is much appreciated. Thank you

my friend installed in a new condo project. High gloss Armstrong I believe bought a Lowes. Looks fantastic. Comes in individual plank 4" wide so it looks like hardwood. From a practical aspect yes its going to show a lot more than other products. Since I used to be an Armstrong rep I asked about recoating or reinsihing and its impossible to do. If you bought engineered or prefinished hardwood you could have the gloss and the ability to recoat without resanding down the road. Generally the laminate is going to be more scratch resistant than some hardwood but anything can be scratched.

We've had laminate floors for a few months now. The upstairs is a lighter, low gloss finish, the downstairs is a dark, high gloss finish. The upstairs is the easiest. Just a quick vacuum with a stick vac and a run over with a microfiber dry mop and we're good to go. The downstairs? The same thing, but it needs to be done more often (every other day, vs. twice a week) Still, for the look of the downstairs high gloss, it's well worth it to me. I do have a spray bottle of Bruce cleaner for laminate floors, but I hardly ever seem to use it, and when I do, it's mostly for the entry hall where we come in from outside.

They have one location in N. America = New York. The rest are northern Europe (Germany and Switzerland) with a single outlet in Barcelona and one in Moscow. I would say you are in good hands if this is your flooring company. The Swiss and Germans are DIE HARD wood flooring SNOBS.

Hi Brittany, OP here...sorry I didn’t get back to this post earlier! I ended up going with a laminate also. I liked the color of the Mannington but I couldn’t get past the softer feel of the floor. I also visited some flooring forums where people had issues with the vinyl planks buckling in areas that received a lot of sun during the day. When you do research online it’s so hard to know if these types of issues are widespread or just anomalies! I kept looking... After amassing a ridiculous pile of flooring samples in engineered wood, vinyl and laminate, I kept coming back to a Pergo laminate called Riverbend Oak. In the end, I weighed the cost of laying vinyl planks against the fact that I really didn’t love the way it felt underfoot and decided to go with the Pergo. This particular kind is not their waterproof product but it has held up very well. I have two dogs and one child tracking lots of snow into the house this winter and I haven’t had any problems. I have it installed in my living, dining and kitchen spaces. Laminate is still a good option, IMHO. Hope that helps! Riverbend Oak Pergo laminate
