Purple Haze is a hybrid tomato. Basically, it's a cross between a stable parent line originating in Brandywine x Cherokee Purple crossed with another open pollinated variety, Black Cherry. The result is a large, dark, tasty cherry tomato. The breeder released the seeds to a couple of plant vendors (SelectedPlants.com and Laurel's Plants) with the understanding that part of the proceeds of sales will go towards autism research or assistance. SelectedPlants.com may still have a few F1 Purple Haze plants available this spring, but you'll have to check with him on that. Beyond that, several people are growing out segregating and recombining variations of Purple Haze and may have gotten to the F3 or F4 generations by this time. There have been some size differences expressed in the recombinants that are larger than the original Purple Haze. Hope that helps a little. Surely there is more to learn. Bill

My daughter's rental house has vinyl floors that look a lot like the picture Tami posted. Looks good, feels good, much more practical. Your kids are little now, but hard on the floor just progresses as they get older. Eventually you'll have basketballs bouncing on the floors, sport shoes of various sorts that should be left at the door but aren't, and general chasing and running around. One of the girls will inevitably spill nail polish or nail polish remover on the floor (well, maybe one of the boys, you never know). If you have real wood at this point you're going to spend more time reprimanding them than is necessary. You'll worry about it and be mad at them. Family life will go a tad smoother if you don't set them up for transgressions. My conclusion: you'll be happier if you go for the vinyl at this point in your family life.

Yes, my ceilings are 8 feet. I would have to leave off the glass part at the top. We are opeing up the wall which is where the penninsula will be, then a few feet out from the penninsula my ceilings raise to 16 feet in the living room with 2 skylights in the celing and lots of natural light. I really thought this would prevent the darks wood from becoming to heavy, also combining it with the lighter elemtns it helps brighten things up. I do want to put in handscraped hickory hardwood floors. This would be throughout the kitchen, dining room, and living room. I like the tile but I want the flow of having the floors all the same. I knew there would be people who don't like this kitchen. It's definitely not for eveyone, and I respect that. It makes a very strong statement. You can correct me on the eclectic if you like. I call that mixing the different elements, details, finishes, and embellishments. I do agree it's tuscan, antique looking. I am worried about using it in "my smaller space" That is why I posted here to get ideas. I appreciate all suggestions and all thoughts negative or positive. I do think not having enough space is a huge concern. One reason I thought this style would work is because we are opening this space up and removing a wall. Our living room is large. There are only two of us living here. Empty nesters. I can't see the expense of expanding. Not in this econmic climate and the area I live in. I was hoping by opening up the space it would give us a nice entertaining area. It is a load bearing wall so a support column is needed at the end of the penninsula. For this reason I really can't have an island. I am limited, I do have to be realistic. That's not always easy!

Floorman here 40 years experience professional installer First. You have a bigger leak under floor if it buckling. Sound to me you would be better to have vinyl plank installed instead of wood. If you want a professional job it will cost you $10 plus for wood and labor no furniture. Labor alone is $5 in Missouri. The cheap hardwood is all going to be soft easy to scratch. Vinyl plank would be cheaper. Labor is $1.50 to $2.00 sq ft. Its glue down or it can be loose laid if you buy that type. If a peace gets scratched easier to replaced even for DIY but that peace will have to be glued. Vinyl plank looks like real wood now days. Water won’t hurt it as long as not a major leak. If your on concrete for wood or vinyl a moisture test should be taken first to see if there’s any hydrostatic pressure if there is it shouldn’t lay either one would have to fix problem first. With vinyl plank if it is glued you might need 1/4” underlayment on sub floor. But loose snap in vinyl plank you shouldn’t need underlayment. If your floor is wavy so will the vinyl plank look. Just my advice.
