So confused about flooring, please help
Comments (3)Sounds like what you want is wood. We have installed our own, it is fairly easy and you can rent the tools to make it simple. I even finished ours and it turned out great. If money is the issue, many places have lower grades. For our Sunroom/gameroom and backdoor entry room we used a lower grade of oak flooring because I wanted it to appear a little older, I wanted character and I liked how it looked, not so perfectly matchy matchy with color and grain. I surprisingly got many wonderful grain variations, some birds eye, some burled- just really beautiful. I think we paid 99 cents a sq ft. We bought extra because we knew we would have some that were not satisfactory but the flooring cost very little, mainly it was just time and labor....See MoreSO confused about flooring for sunroom !!!
Comments (4)ccoombs . . . thanks for your input !! Probably when it all comes down to it, we will end up going with sheet vinyl/fiberfloor . . are they the same thing ?? I should know by now, I guess . . . but still in the land of confusion !! Who woulda thunk that a simple floor for the sunroom would cause so much angst ??!!!!! Not me !!! cynnamama . . . thanks for your input, also !! Had at one point considered cork . . . but I believe it has to be glued down, and because of water problems we had at one time, it's been advised to use something other than glue-down. I do love cork, however . . . I'm with you on the not knowing how to post pictures !! Something I need to learn !!!! The entire time of the kitchen remodel . . . I could never post pics to visualize what I was talking about !! MANY people tried step by step to explain it to me . . . Again . . . thank you both for your input !! Appreciate it !! Comments (5)There is a lot to be said here but I will restrain myself. For only charcoal filtration, any faucet should work. Use a charcoal filter that is standard size (guessing without moving my keister to measure that standard means 3 inches in diameter by about 10 inches long.) Pressure drop should be modest until depleted so flow would be high. With R.O. water, one needs a pressure tank and at least 3/8 poly tubing to use with a standard faucet. One may also need other active components to keep the pressure up. My R.O. system feeds a Brizo Venuto, a Brizo pot filler, a plant wand, a refrigerator ice maker, and eventually a bar sink faucet. However, I have a peristaltic brine-driven pump from Spectrapure, and two pressure tanks. With R.O. filtration, it is possible in some cases for the resulting water to become soft and acidic, and this can leach lead where present. For such cases, a lead free faucet is needed. My R.O. input is municipal water that has been dosed at the source with alkali chemicals, and pH measurements show that it is still alkaline after R.O. filtration. kas...See MoreConfused: Lots of questions about engineered wood flooring
Comments (11)It would be a good idea to check out the installation method used for your engineered wood floors. Most wood floors, engineered or solid, can have a particular plank replaced without the need to sand the entire flooring. Since you have some additional planks left over from the previous install, this is really a godsend. Check to see if these planks have thick enough wear layer to be resanded (anything over 3mm is good to go). Greg explained the difference between engineered and laminate flooring very well. As for maintenance, this is where it gets tricky. There are so many types of wood flooring cleaners on the market that claims to be for wood flooring which in fact leave a hazy residue. 1. Avoid vinegar because this can break down the finish over time because it is acidic. 2. Avoid the steam mop because this will cause unnecessary moisture changes in the wood. 3. Check into the finish type of your wood flooring to determine the best cleaner for your floors. Engineered or Solid, you have some real hardwood flooring and if properly cared for with a decent wear layer you might just have a product that will last a lifetime....See MoreProject Tackler
