I wouldn't call Domain. They won't help you. They may be on credit hold with that company so they may not want to help you.
Dealing with the manufacturer directly has its own problems. You will have to pay the manufacturer directly, with cash probably, ahead of time before it's shipped.
Also the trucking will have to be paid by you ahead of time as well. Then there's the unpacking and prepping but the big thing is if there is a problem with it YOU would have to send it to the Mfg. yourself (incurring more shipping charges possibly)

I would go with the other Retailer. Explain the situation and try to get them to pick up the order for you. They would be handling the payment & trucking and prepping as well as delivery. If there is ever a problem, you can call them and they will service the unit.

Thanks mactruck. Well I spoke w/Domain, not only can't they help me but (if they stay in biz) will no longer have a relationship w/the manufacturer. So - no go there. Too many things can go wrong w/dealing directly w/the manufacturer. I also will not pay another dollar towards this piece. So, I will continue to pursue my charge back/credit disute and once the charge has been cleared I will order if from another source.

Here's what I would do in your situation Susan.

First, forget about Domain. Anything you have done with them is null and void. Get your money back if you can and be glad if that happens.

Now that manufacturer does NOT want that piece. He wants it gone off his shipping dock and someone is going to be buying it, be it you or another dealer. Since you were lucky enough to find it, you have a major opportunity to get it right now at a good price. As bad as you want it, they want it gone and to get paid just as badly.

Shipping dock to dock is no big deal. Just have it delivered to a local moving/carriage company and they'll unbox it and bring it out to your home and set it in your room for you. You mentioned Gallahans in VA, so if you're local to Northern VA then Tobin Transport does this sort of thing on a regular basis.

Call the manufacturer and get past the customer service people and go to the VP of Sales in the company, make him a cash offer of 20% less than the price you contracted with Domain (play a little poker and don't tell them the contract price you had with Domain) and then ask them to pay the freight as well to the carriage company. Bet they take it.

Very little to go wrong with it actually. Don't muddy the negotiations with a lot of questions as to if something goes wrong with it...the standard warranty will apply and thats all you need. You want the piece, the maker is stuck with it now and its win-win since its already made. Make the phone call and try it!

Duane - I was hoping you'd chime in. I've read your posts and knew your professional experience might help me. Everything I paid for towards that piece was on my Domain charge card. I haven't paid any $$ towards the card for that piece to date. So "assuming" I can get the charge back from the credit card company I won't be out a dime. "ASSUMING!" I'd love to try your option but DH requested that I do nothing until we know the $$ charged to the card for that piece is credited back to us. So I guess it's a waiting game. What I might do is contact the manufacturer after I (hopefully) know that the CC has been charged back and try to strike a deal then. Thank you for your advice - honestly...never thought this was going to happen w/Domain. I felt pretty secure when I ordered it. I feel bad for all of those Domain employees that are now stuck dealing w/angry customers and in jeapordy of losing their jobs. Thanks again Duane.

Since you haven't paid anything on the Domain card, and they've gone bankrupt, then there really is no concern on your part. There is just no way that can stand up otherwise, and you will probably get statements for three to four months in any case showing a balance due. I'd write a letter (not an email, not a phone call, but certified with return receipt) to the card issuer (it won't be Domain itself) stating that because the bankruptcy negates the deal and all orders are canceled, you are not liable for the charge as there were no goods delivered and therefore any contract is null and void. Then keep a copy of the letter and the post office signed receipt. Its going to take a long time for this to finish up to where you see zeros on your statement because its tied up in bankruptcy - but there is no way the credit card issuer can take you to task or legitimately put a ding on your credit report.

Now, onto the piece that is on that makers dock. This won't stay there long, they will offer it to an operation like Greenfront in Farmville at a blowout price, along with any other items they may have been stuck with. It will be sold as a lot at a steep discount, as the maker MUST get that off his dock and clear whatever cash he can out of it. If you want that piece, I'd strongly suggest you act on it sooner rather than later. Once they strike a deal to sell the lot, you won't be able to get it easily.
