really need some advice! lots of wood to paint - pics

Have a contract on this house, built in the late 60's. As you can see below, there's a LOT of wood, at least I seem to think it.

I need some ideas on what or how to paint the eat-in kitchen area, and be able to tie it in to the kitchen. It just sticks out like a sore thumb, esp. with that yellow paint.

I am planning on keeping the cabinets as they are for now. I am upgrading everything else though, but I actually do like the cabinets and they are in fantastic condition.

I need to get rid of that vibrant yellow, but I have NO idea what to do about the wood on the bottom of the wall, trim, cornice and bifolds. Keep it as is, or paint it? Wallpaper the top portion, or paint? I'm at a total loss and need some guidance.

THEN, there's the den - yep, more wood. I'm going to take down the little shelf going around the room - and I guess paint the wood as I have no other idea what to do with having that much wood.

Anyone have any ideas, color suggestions??

THANKS!

And then we have a pic of just one set of doors that they left au natural
