What should I use for flooring in walk out basement?

We are finishing part of our basement and I am trying to decide which flooring is best for us. It should never get water in it and it is not damp. Konecto, engineered hardwood, commercial carpet, tile? We have 3 kids, ages 9-14. We are wanting a french country, rustic look, not too elegant, but comfortable. Cultured stone fireplace, wrought iron spindles on stairs. We will have a pool table and small kitchen.

I am not a big fan of carpet, but am considering it for comfort. Tile seems cold and hard to stand on around a pool table, but it is the easiest for cleaning. We love hardwood, so sort of lean toward that, but it is also more expensive. I am wondering about how we would like the Konecto. It concerns me about how permanent it would be.

We plan to live in this house forever, so I am not looking for a quick fix. However, I am not sure we want to spend a fortune on flooring.

Does anyone have ideas or suggestions?
