Mystery ingredient solved...

Reading the recent marinade thread I saw Wizards recipe for Backwoods Flank Steak and there was pickapeppa sauce, I now know why I bought that bottle of sauce thats been sitting in the pantry for a few months! I have copied and pasted the recipe this time.

Now I'm trying to remember why I have 2 cans of Imperial Dragon coconut milk in there! Probably to try a curry recipe, even though I've never made curry before.

Any one else have mystery items in their pantry?

I have (had) some Tahini Paste (sesame seed paste) in my pantry.
I actually made so Hummus and it was really good.

Here's the recipe:
1 can (15ozs) chickpeas
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup tahini
1/4 cup chopped yellow onion
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
2 tsp ground cumin
1/8 tsp ground red pepper
1/2 tsp salt
Chopped fresh parsley

Drain the chickpeas, reserving 1/4 -1/2 cup of the liquid
Combine the chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini, onion, garlic, oil, cumin, parsley, pepper and salt in a blender or food processor. Puree until smooth, adding the chickpea liquid if needed to thin the puree. Refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours before serving to blend the flavors.

Serve with veggies.

I'm glad you solved your mystery, maybe there is hope for me.

I bought about 4 ingredients (can't remember 'cause they got scattered) for a recipe (rub, I think) that obviously sounded good at the time. Spike All Purpose Original Magic (never heard of it before)
Whole black pepper
Fennel seed

Well that's a cool way to find that long lost pear. Winter Nellis is sometimes used as rootstock. In the growers nursery row, the Seckle bud didn't take, so they let the Winter Nellis rootstock be harvested.

YummOOOOO! I have made this several times! velveeta fudge I cut the recipe in half and use a square pyrex dish Spray a 9 x 13 inch cake pan with PAM (imitation cooking spray) 1/2 pound Velveeta 1/2 pound butter 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla 1 2lb. bag of powdered sugar 1/2 cup cocoa powder Nuts, if desired I like it with nuts Melt Velveeta and butter on top of stove (preferrably in a pan. Velveeta is shapely but it won't stay together when heat is applied). When melting is done, pour in remaining ingredients and mix using a hand mixer. Pour into pan and chill.

Update: I contacted a water scientist from Penn State, and he was very helpful. He hasn't seen the faucet debris, but he thinks some of the "hair" might have come from insulation, which is spilling out of the large pipe that houses the pipe that carries water from the well to the water tank. His recommendation is to have the water tested before I do anything. He gave me a list of labs in the state, and three of them are within driving distance so i can easily get water samples to them within the 30-hour window, and save myself some of the cost of postage besides. If the tests show no bacteria, I can do nothing. If the water is positive for bacteria, I could order the shock chlorination. But if I want to avoid chlorine, I could instead have a whole-house UV light filter installed. I'm going to explore that possibility tomorrow.

Help me solve a bathtub drain mystery

Hi, we just completed a 9-month renovation with an experienced GC and good subs. All is well except in one (brand new) bathroom, where the bathtub drain (Kohler tub and drain) drains very very slowly and without any force. If you take a shower, the drainage is OK, but a bath of any depth drains over the course of 5 slow minutes, leaving behind soap and other residue. We checked that the vent is getting adequate air, that the stopper isn’t a culprit. There’s no pitch issue. We haven’t yet snaked the drain but will next week. The drain was totally covered during renovation however and it seems unlikely the brand new pipes have a clog. One more thing: a couple of times using the bath since we moved in less than a week ago there’s a loud sound (similar to air in pipes sound) coming from the drain and the drain cover vibrates. When you put a finger on the drain cover or lift it up the noise stops. I don’t know if the noise and problem are related but I would love and tips on how to improve and perfect the drain flow in my kids’ tub, which gets daily use and needs to be robust. Whew! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that has mysteries in my pantry! LOL

Things I have that I can't remember what I bought them for:

Thai Chili Paste
Spring roll Wrappers
A can of clams
Tomatillos

I am sure there are others, but I am not home to take another look!

I must have printed out that chili sauce/grape jelly recipe for meatballs or little smokies at least three times over the years because I have three bottles of chili sauce and three jars of grape jelly in the pantry, none of which has even been touched.

Lindaluu2, I have Tahini paste too that I haven't used thanks for the recipe.
I also have fish sauce.. never used. I want to try new things and remember some of the ingredients when I go shopping but end up putting them in the pantry and then foget about them.

Yes, I hate it when i do that. I've have a bottle of marinated mushrooms I've had for a year or two and don't remember what I was going to do with them.

I love SPIKE! They have a low salt version which I'm looking for but haven't found yet, I'm sure its on-line but I'm also sure that sooner or later I'll find it in the market. My favorite use is to mix it in cottage cheese with chopped carrot and cucumber, seems like a summer thing. I find it to be a very bright and flavorful flavor combo.
