I am keeping all the cabinet boxes, including the open shelves. (This pic is from a while ago, they are more organized now.) I have a specific question about finishing the sides of the boxes. I was planning to wrap the stainless counter around the side of the cabinet and down to the floor next to the pivoting peninsula, because the kids kick the crap out of the wall there and that side of those drawers are all chipped. I would do it on the other side by the pantry to keep it parallel. Will it look strange to wrap it there and not wrap it on the island (the island will be on stainless legs about 9" high, so it wouldn't go to the floor anyway.) Also, will it look strange to have the boxes on the perimeter painted white, but the boxes on the island laminated with Lyptus veneer?

Grandmas sectional needs updating. also needs new foam & legs so we're going for it. It will be in front of this fireplace, on either side. Will change curtains & possibly the mantle color, it turned orange in time. Need fabric that wont show stains easily. want more texture than pattern, not too light of color but don't want brown because floor is dark. was thinking a blue grey but now leaning towards grey to charcoal. please help with ideas to pull this room together. This upholstery will last a long time, afraid of making mistake. Thanks for any help.

Anglophilia, what’s the distance between your mini wood island and your stove counter and the counter across from it? We have a drop leaf kitchen table in our kitchen that we use as a mini island (leaves always down) and our distances are narrower than the recommended 42” min. I like the shorter distance for functionality/various drop zones. You must like your narrower spaces too (unless they’re larger than the look).
