Well thank goodness, there are new guidelines for the 18th wedding anniversary...aren't there?

The modern "category" is porcelain. Scott did not get me a toilet.

I believe the new "category" is le creuset!

Our anniversary is today. Scott got me the 5 1/2 qt pot and my inlaws brought me the teakettle! Yes, I am very happy!

NOW, what can I make in this beauty???

How about Coq au vin? But no cooking on your anniversary!

Congrats to you both!! I have the same pot, from Christmas in 06.

I am using my today to make a family favourite-pot roast with mashed potatoes. mmmmmmm good after an afternoon outside at a farm! (Chance has riding lessons today)

We celebrated our 50th last May and I got my husband a Seiko mantle clock. It plays six different songs and they are all so pretty. They had several clocks to chose from and each clock had different songs. We have had so many compliments on the clock and the beautiful music. My husband was so pleased and that is saying a lot as he usually doesn't pay much attention to such things. I had a plate engraved and put on the front of it. Felt like it was a real hit. The cost was around $300. Bought it at a jewelry store, but you might google and find one on line. By the way, it doesn't have to be a mantle clock, but that is where we put it. Congratulations! Wow, lots of neat traditions. I find shopping for gifts wearying. I usually start in October and try to be finished by the end of November. I try to leave time in December for decorating, cookie baking and wrapping gifts. We are also away for about 9 days total in December as our kids play in 2 international junior squash tournaments and so this takes a huge chunk out of our Christmas preparation time and also means we cannot have a real tree as we are away and can't water it. We buy for our 3 kids, in-laws, our staff (about 8 people), couple of aunts and uncles, and assorted family. We have done a draw for the family in previous years so that all the adults names are put in a hat and each person then draws and only has to buy 1 gift. But this has fallen by the wayside as part of the family had moved away and sometimes comes back for Christmas and sometimes doesn't. I am more conscious now in trying to buy gifts that are useful or consumable as we all know how easy clutter comes into our homes and how difficult and time consuming it is to take it back out. Traditionally my DH and I usually buy small gifts for each other, most of which will fit in our stockings, requisite gifts are chocolate bars, socks, paperbacks, I always receive a "For Better or For Worse" comic book and the year's stamp set (Canadian), and a CD, you get the idea. We also buy lots of little things for the kids' stockings. Sometimes there may be one big gift for the family (one year it was a large screen T.V. ) and then, the other gifts will be smaller and fewer. I usually get an Odyssey set of tapes (from Focus on the Family) as one of the gifts for the kids as we do lots of driving trips and the kids like listening to them in the car. Just wrapping all the stocking gifts takes forever, but they are so much fun to open Christmas morning. Christmas Eve, the family goes to Church as our Church does not have a Christmas morning service. Then we open presents Christmas morning, have brunch and relax and then start cooking Christmas dinner late afternoon, in-laws come and another round of gift opening takes place. I really like it that we don't have to go anywhere on Christmas day, it really is quite relaxing. My DH jokes that it's the only day in the whole year when the car doesn't leave the driveway!

Happy Anniversary Stacy!! We were married in 90 as well. Hmmm, I musty make sure my DH knows the 18th Anniversary is Le Creuset.

You know it is great to be amongst friends who understand that I would NEVER be mad if my husband gave me a gift for the kitchen. Cleaning supplies however would be another story.

Now you need to run out and buy yourself a copy of "All About Braising" by Molly Stevens.

Happy Anniversary, Stacy. I'm voting for the pot roast but I'm sure you're going to get lots of use out of that pot and I like the color too.

Robinkate, I also would never mind getting kitchen utensils or cookware, etc. I wasn't very happy the year I got the vacumn cleaner, though....

I wouldn't be happy with a toilet either, but Le Creuset! That is a great gift! Happy Anniversary to you both!

All About Braising is great, RobinKate! Stacy there was a thread here with lots of braising recipes from that book.

I never mind getting kitchen things, a toilet would not make me happy, well, it depends :)

A very awesome gift indeed. Happy anniversary to you both. You will have a wonderful time cooking in that pot. I love the teakettle too. Since I redecorated in reds, blues, and yellows, my old black teakettle just doesn't cut it anymore. I am lusting over yours!

Happy Anniversary! My parents' anniversary was yesterday, and so I guess it must be a good time of year for that.

I haven't used a pot like that in quite a while, but I think it would be good for baked beans - or a huge batch of chili. I used to use one to cook pork butt, but now I would have to put turkey thighs in instead.

Those are beautiful gifts, I love the color! I wonder how many people (not here, of course) would think that was a terrible gift? One of my all time favorite anniversary gifts from my husband was my first KA mixer. I believe that was our 6th. I thought it was wonderful; some women were horrified that my husband bought me an appliance for our anniversary. I was horrified that they would refer to my beautiful 5 quart white KA mixer as an "appliance". Now you can make a fabulous pot toast for your husband in his gift!

Great gift, I'd be thrilled! Love the color and both items! Last week in my Batali pan, I made Hungarian Goulash over lemon parsley noodles. It was wonderful, so there's my vote!

A close friend of mine who is not as into cooking as sI am received a white KA mixer as a gift for her husband. She still loved it, said he got really lucky that night. LOL.

Now, that's a porcelain category I could live with!

Lot's of 1990 weddings, here! Our 18th is coming up in June, I would be thrilled with a gift like that!

I made 1/2 recipe. It's huge.
I got the pot on Boxing Day. I love how things that are cooked in them turn out.
