What have you found to be the best exercise website (for tips) and the best supplier (in terms of inexpensive products) for exercise needs?

QVC has alot of equipment for reasonable prices. Go to mysimon and compare as well. Also I would get ratings from Epinions.

I'll post the link to ExRx below. GREAT place for checking out strength training workouts (there's a little movie of the exercise being performed on each page).

Also a caveat to ordering from infomercials or QVC - you get what you pay for...if you're looking for a home treadmill/elliptical/etc., I'd suggest going to Sears, SportMart, or Play it Again Sports and **try before you buy**. Yeah, I know, QVC has the 30-day money back guarantee but think of what a hassle it'll be to keep the packaging, repackage, and ship back a large item. Not to mention that YOU have to pay the return shipping out of pocket!

My top two suggestions for home exercise equipment:

For strength training: Check out PowerBlocks. They are so neat - it's a set of adjustable dumbbells that takes up very little room and you can adjust from 5 pounds up to 100+ (depending on what model you buy). If you have wrist problems these are also a good choice ergonomically. PowerBlocks are being carried by a lot of exercise equipment dealers (FitnessWize is one in my area) or you can check 'em out on www.powerblocks.com. Trust me that you CAN INDEED get a full strength training workout with just dumbbells and an adjustable bench!

Cardio top choice: If you have a decent bike (road or mountain) look into buying a WIND TRAINER. Most professional cyclists rely on wind trainers to keep up during the wet/rainy/snowy seasons when they can't ride outdoors. These can REALLY give you a workout! Best of all, they are very compact once you remove your bike - fits nicely into a closet. They come in a wide range of prices - just keep in mind that the less expensive ones are going to be a lot noisier than the pricier models. Any well-stocked bike shop should carry at least one model for you to try out. Check eBay for great prices!

Hope that helps!

Wow. What a read! I got into Dahlia three years ago. A good friend gifted me with a single cactus - pink that I have yet to identify. It's a strong plant with lovely blooms that also make great cuts. Because of how I grow my flowers, this dahlia in particular will yield an incredibly quantity of useful tubers for the next year. Of course, I share what I can and my friends fall in love with growing dahlias because of their success in growing this particular cultivar. Sorry, my intro went on for days. Given that I reside in SE Portland, I have come to rely upon Swan Island [Canby, OR] and Old House Dahlias [SE Portland]. This years crop came entirely from Old House Dahlia. I am very pleased by the quality and performance. However, several cultivars have been slow in growing, notably Lindy, Tanjoh, and Fascination. The blooming is delayed, too. Aside from the pink, my planting of Shea's Rainbow has been the showstopper of the season. Relying on the Aer. Dahlia Society's classification index, Shea's Rainbow is BB/IC/V [meaning, Small flowered [4-6"]/Incursive Cactus/Variegated coloring. Checkers [M/FD/BI] comes in a close second. Although, I have discovered this cv. to be less stable in terms of bloom bi-coloration reverting possibly to one the parent colors?

I had something of a discouraging word or 2 for Sunny and probably made her hope that there were others with some encouraging info on this forum. I wanted her to keep hoping. And, explained that I was just a crusty curmudgeon but Jaliranchr was not. Jaliranchr seems to have blamed that observation on David while posting a link to what is probably the most comprehensive seed selection in the region. She also pointed out that Skybird is the most positive poster and, by golly, Skybird proved it! But, along the way - I think we all gave Sunny a few leads for seeds . . . with Skybird topping the list. This is a pretty darn good reference thread! Advice regarding adoption
Q

I have to disagree some with Cynthia's post, my sister has adopted TWO dogs from "a responsible and well known rescue group", both were grossly misrepresented as being healthy, well adapted pets. Within months of each adoption, she spent literally thousands on medical care for them and is now required to make special foods for each of them to eat. Originally, we also wanted to go through a "well known rescue" to adopt, the first dog was grossly misrepresented as being an older Shepard puppy, when it ended up being a 13 year old Samoyed mix. The other "well known rescue" made it so difficult to adopt, we got frustrated and bought our puppy from a private family. I don't know nor do I care if they were a "backyard breeder", I saw both the parents and they were beautiful, healthy, well adjusted dogs. All eleven of the puppies were rollie pollie butter balls of healthy happy energy. Even though she was a young 6 weeks, our puppy never cried for her mother and has been one of the best well behaved puppies I've ever owned. She's 7 months old now and a valued member of our family. After months of research and this last experience I finally came to the conclusion that unless you are willing to spend 1000's for a dog (which I'm NOT) it's is pretty much the luck of the draw no matter where you acquire your dog from. You just have to use a little bit of good judgement and ask a lot of questions. I feel like the experiences we had with the rescue were much like buying a used car. You have no history of where that car has been, how well it has been taken care of or why the owner has chosen to let it go. I commend the rescue effort but let's be honest, there is a lot of misrepresentation with in that circle. I also commend the OP for her efforts, it may not have turned out the way she wanted but it was sure great that she cared enough to try. Sorry, couldn't resist a chance to share!

It's all been well said, Zuzu, but I would add that by the time someone decides to consult a professional for this sort of thing, they really, really want help, & they really, really WANT your feedback & insight & won't feel you're pushing anything on them. You are obviously a very sensitive, thoughtful person, & you don't need to fear coming across in an arrogant fashion, but also remember that generally people consulting you will feel quite eager to hear what you have to say & will find it interesting & useful. I've been able to offer helpful suggestions to people in my life regarding decor that were appreciated. However, when it comes to my own place, I'm mystified! I agonize over decisions I've made, money I've spent & wonder what is salvagable, what is not. Almost daily I ponder over the mess I feel I've made! My point is, if I was in your area & called you to come help me... listen, I'm so ready to hear what you have to say! Don't feel trepidation, just give me what you've got, girl! If something you suggest doesn't feel right, I'll tell ya! It's give & take, yes? There will be a sharing of ideas, yes? But in the end, I'll have a different perspective on things & you possibly will have solved a very vexing problem for me & maybe I can relax in my home instead of stressing over it. See what you could do for people? Get out there. ..you have so much to offer!
