In need of a great workout!!

We are in need of the machine that would give you the best workout. We have a treadmill and a elliptical and just want one more item. Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like you have great cardio and lower body. What are you doing for upper body and strength? The answer to that question may guide your decision.
You could think about a rowing machine, but weights, resistance might be better.

Have you thought about doing body weight exercises?

THIS workout did wonders for my upper body strength!

Busylizzy I'm glad your tendonditis pain has settled down- yikes! I'm using those band thingies too, aren't they cool? Ohsillyme- heels on concrete floors? You really are a seedaholic too! :) Yes, when you're bending down to look at the bottom row it is a precarious position to be in. I've almost tipped over a few times LOL! Thanks Teequiltbarbie! I am pretty darned proud of myself and deserve to treat myself to seeds instead of cigs! Only problem is that some of those seeds are more expensive than the smokes at times- but I'm worth it! Have not heard of "Veria", but I am doing a Tai Chi beginners thing that I get on Comcast on Demand Fitness tv. I was amazed at how many exercise programs they have for FREE! Congrats on your lack of cigs too and the Yoga! It's soooo hard to quit and then stick to exercise, but I feel better daily so it's all good. I want to stick around to be winter sowing a LONG time. :)

Erro, someone must have emailed you saying that we don't allow advertising here. Truly, your posted message sounded like advertising, giving the website and raving on and on about how great the workout was. Don't be offended. Some here are very sensitive about people promoting their own companies or products. I know I am. Many people try to do it in a sneaky way so others don't realize it really is self-promotion. So....don't go away mad. Stick around and post when you want to. How great you have found an exercise program you like.

Hi! I am in week 4 of the Insanity program, and it is a love-hate relationship. The workouts are definitely some of the hardest I've done - and I played college volleyball! And yet, I'm getting better and stronger everyday and starting to see a difference in my body. Not to mention the boost to my self-esteem from completing some of the hardest workouts on the market! Here's the thing. You are jumping, squatting, and lunging literally everyday. I do the DVDs on carpet so I have a nice soft surface and haven't had any issues with sore joints, but my workout partners who are a little older than me (I'm 29 yrs) have been complaining about sore knees. Shoes and your workout surface are obviously going to make a big difference, but just realize that every workout contains intense jumps, squats, lunges, sprints, etc. That being said, I would highly recommend it. I am so grateful to be doing it with a couple of friends because I don't think I could get through the workouts on my own! They are TOUGH.

I wear SkirtSports and Athleta running skorts for running and working out. For me the length is perfect - long enough to wear out to the grocery store w/o feeling skimpy. The built in compression shorts on the SkirtSports brand have pockets on either thigh where I store my car key and my iPod or anything else I need to carry. I also have a few things from lululemon that I love. I mostly wear skorts for working out now b/c I don't feel funny wearing them out in public. I don't like wearing tights/compression gear if I'm running errands. SkirtSports also has a longer skirt that I wouldn't wear for exercising as it's a tad too long, but it's great for running errands. In cooler months, I wear the LottaBreeze Capri style (capri w/skirt over top). For winter, I wear insulated running tights that have a built in skirt from Athleta or I wear Under Armour Cold Gear tights with a separate skirt from Athleta over top to cover my arse. Once I discovered skirts/skorts, I rarely ever wear workout shorts anymore (the compression shorts underneath prevent chafing). Here is a link that might be useful: Skirt Sports

I love tennis as well. I've always mixed that with stretching and light weights. More recently, I started doing yoga. It is fantastic for an aging body. Although I'mm a self-graded "C" student, I feel so good afterwards. The stretching and balance poses are "just what the doctor ordered".

If you must have a machine how about a rower for upper body, or a pilates machine for overall flexibility and toning?

but I would recommend a set of hand weights, a step and a variety of videos -- I am still fond of "The Firm" series, but there are lots of free workouts available online. Definitely include a good stretching routine.

Coming into this thread very late (but better late than never). There is a great program on many PBS stations, and is also available in video format as well as a (paid) streaming online format: Classical Stretch. I love this workout for no-impact aerobics, stretching and strengthening of the entire body. Each workout is about 23 minutes long. In our area (San Diego) it runs at 5 am, but I just DVR the show and do the workout later. I've also purchased a couple of seasons, so that I can do those on weekends. I do this workout about 6 days a week, sometimes 7.
