What is the Best exercise for stomach flab?

Hi, I've lost 103 pounds and only exercised like 2 times a week. I started at 234 and am now 131. I am 4'11 inches tall. Now I have lots of flab on my stomach and upper legs. What is the best excercise to get this off? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Chrissy

The bad news is spot reducing does not work. Check with Dr. Dean Adel. Since tennis players exercise one arm more then the other, but thier playing arm does not grow thinner then the other arm. Only liposuction can spot reduce.

Pilates! Check around for classes, or see if Blockbuster has some videos you can rent. It really works.

Thanks much for the welcome :) I have ordered the WATP videos on half.com and can't wait for them to arrive. But since I posted, I decided to start anyway with the treadmill in our basement. I have done a mile of brisk walking every day since then. EXCEPT *sigh* the weekend. DH took me to this most awesome restaurant in NYC and I stuffed myself to the gills the food was sooo good. But today is Monday...I am gonna get back on track or rather on treadmill :) Speaking of the treadmill, I tend to slow down (in other words, "give up") once the counter says 1 mile. Do you think throwing a towel over the counters (speed, distance etc.) would work?? Superbee

Forget the treadmill.Use your child as a weight! You can lift her over your head and work your shoulders.Bend over and lift her up to you and you are working your back.Lay her across your arms like a barbell and "curl" her. Hold her while you do some leg exercises. I think they make baby carriers for people that like to hike.Put her in one and do squats and donkey raises for your legs.You can sit her on your thighs, hold hands and do some crunches for your stomach. I have had three kids and you just won't be able to make the time right now. My husband also works nights so I understand the problem. But I would definitely look into hiking gear for parents and walk around the neighborhood daily.Or how about a jogging stroller? If you bike, they make these little enclosed cars that you can attach to your bike.Check yard sales. I found a very expensive stroller once for $5. Or you can check any consignment shops, Goodwill, or Play it Again Sports shops. I have found that , if you look in the right places, you can find anything you need for alot less money.

I take 1000 units of Vitamind D-3 daily. I also take 1500 units of calcium citrate and 3 mg. of boron as suggested by my doctor. There is no way I get enough sun exposure to make my own vitamin D. Jannie, have you considered the Boniva injection? That's what I will do if the Evista doesn't work for me. I have chronic kidney disease but I am not yet on dialysis. Stretching and balance are good for preventing falls, but they won't build up your bone. That takes weight bearing exercise.

She (briefly) mentioned some very good advice - practice correct posture of these moves before starting to use the weights (and I don't agree with her suggested "beginner" weights - too heavy! perhaps she is thinking of people who already do some free weight work and want to step it up?) For example, as Annie said, a deep squat should not have the knees forward of the toes - the focus is on pushing one's rear end back as if aiming for a low chair Stomach always held in. Done correctly, with correct weight for ability, and with good posture and form, one's back would not be at risk. One's attention always has to be on using the legs and buttocks to drive the moves, not the back. It is a habit that has to be developed with practice, I think.

A lot of that flab is just excess skin that you no longer need. Time will take care of some of it, otherwise, surgery is the only way to go. It is not like muscle tissue in that exercise will help.

You don't say how long it has been since you lost all that weight, but be patient and keep exercising so that the muscles beneath all that skin will be in great shape. Then when the skin shrinks as much as possible, you will look even better.

I don't know about all that loose skin, but what keeps my stomach toned are various toning exercises that I do daily with one of those ab balls. There are many different ones you can do that work the different muscles in your abs.

Congratulations on all your hard work! 100 pounds is quite an accomplishment!
