Cold hands during exercise

Hi All,

I just recently started an exercise and weight loss program. I have a couple of questions maybe someone can shed some light on:

I am now walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes a day, in the morning. While I am on the treadmill my hands get like ice cubes. Is this normal? I normally have very warm hands. Just want to be sure it isnt a circulation problem.

Secondly, although I have been sticking to the diet portion of my plan, I gained 2 lbs the first week on it. Can I be retaining water because my body isnt used to exercising or something? Any ideas?

Thanks very much for your help!

Best regards,

About the cold hands, the reason is most likely that blood flow shunts to the large working muscles, ie your quadraceps and other leg muscles. It's nothing to worry about.

I had a problem with gaining weight while on a diet too. Turns out the diet plan was more calories than what I had been eating previously. Strange, I know. I went back to the way I used to eat and started losing weight again. Another possibilty is that if you are eating a lot of prepared foods, you are probably also eating a ton of salt, which will cause fluid retention. Exercise won't cause fluid retention, just the opposite- you lose salt and water when you sweat.

Hope this helps. And keep up the good work!

I'm not a doctor and can't tell you what it's from but as a teen I use to have cold extremeties a lot and that's when I was learning about native herbs and plants and I was introduced to dandelion root tea.
well my problem went away.
just dig up your dandelion, wash the roots, cut them up in small pieces before it dries just because it's easier.
dandelion root tea tends to make you pee a lot, it's diuretic and it tastes awful, I added honey and a hint of mint tea to make it taste ok.
