Luna's pizza is amazing, great choice!

Sangria is just wine with fruit and maybe a drop of liquor in it. An inexpensive red wine with oranges, apples, whatever sliced into it, add a drop of contreau and you're good to go.

And yes, chorizo makes great pizza topping.

Cook the chorizo first before you put it on the pizza.

This is Ann T's recipe for Sangria, be sure to use a good quality wine.

Spanish Sangria

1 bottle dry full bodied red wine (Make sure it is a decent wine. One good enough to drink on its own.)
2 Tbl orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)
1/3 Cup of simple syrup
1 lime thinly sliced
1 orange thinly sliced
1 lemon thinly sliced
Juice of one orange
1 Cup club soda

Combined wine, syrup, brandy and orange juice and stir. Add sliced fruit and just before serving add the soda water.

Do not let the fruit slices sit in the Sangria for more than one hour before serving as the peels can cause the drink to be bitter.

Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Bring water and sugar to a boil and simmer until liquid is clear and the sugar has dissolved. Pour in to jar and refrigerate. Keep for 3 weeks.

PS: I'm sure he will be thrilled with your surprise but I bet he's still going to want to go out and use those gift cards..... ; )

I'm sure your intentions are great, but 2+ years of not being out of the house together alone? You don't have anybody you can trust to babysit for a couple of hours to appease your hubby? I think it would do you a world of good to get out together.

Yes, two things my DH always has on his mind good food & well, you know. Going to try & spice up both.
One thing I have noticed since going on this cooking spree in December, he enjoys seeing me in the kitchen. Paws at me whenever I'm cooking. Probably can catch me now, as before, I was always running. Anyone else have this phenomena?
Duker, definetly going out in March(5 years). I have wonderful family/friends that have offered. I don't know what's more of my hesitation. My babies or that tight spandex girdle that'll be cutting off circulation as I sit there worrying about my little guys.

Since I think you need to go out with that husband of yours and be glad that he wants to go out with you!! Just think if the tables were turned and YOU were wanting to get away for a quiet evening with him and he wanted to stay at home for two years. :(

Yeah, leave off with the girdles and such. If your hubby is pawing at you in the kitchen, when you're steamed, bespattered with grease/sauce and likely wearing comfy clothes and little or no make up, he thinks you're hot as you are, and would probably prefer to have a nice dinner with a wife who is comfortable and assured in his attraction to her.

Making pizza at home is great, but the idea of trying to create an evening "out" while "in" with the kids I just can't imagine as workable.

A couple of hours away, firmly pushing any thoughts of your babies out of your mind, to enjoy your husband's company as his wife rather than his kids' mom will woo him plenty without the kind of constraining undergarments (invented by a sadistic fiend who was beaten by his mother, grandma and several aunties and cousins and therefore had it in for women, no doubt) that could possibly make your eyes cross, or at least keep you from enjoying your date!

Heck, find a dark spot to neck a bit on the way home...it was fun before, right? :D

I just saw your post and am exceedingly flattered you would try my pizza recipe. (And Thank You Pauline for your faith in my kitchen skills!) You can use whatever kind of sausage you'd like for your pizza. I typically brown one large sausage link (after cutting the casing off) for two thin crust pizzas. I know it doesn't seem like much, but when I show people how to make it, I find most of them load their pizzas up with too much stuff, and the crust doesn't cook/crisp properly. Good luck; I hope you and your husband like the pizza. I just made it yesterday using fresh mozzarella and it really IS better than you could go out for. If there's any left over, we reheat the pizza by putting the slices on an cast iron griddle (medium heat) and cover with a glass lid. It re-crisps the crust and it's the only way to go. I'd love to know what you think of it once you've tried making it.

I admire you for wanting to stay home and cook; I actually prefer to eat at home, since I think I know too much about what goes on in some restaurant kitchens. You'll know for yourself when the time is right to break outta' there and go on a date! In the meantime, if you can make wonderful food at home AND get your husband to chase you around while you're doing it...well, why not?
