connecting headphones to DVD player

I have used cordless headphones in our bedroom for years so I don't wake my husband and I just hooked up a DVD player but I can't get the headphones to work with it. I watch TV through a DirecTV HD DVR.

Here is what I have tried with no luck:

I have connected the headphone wire (from the headphone base) directly to the DVD, both using the same wires and with separate wires

I have switched the HDMI cable from the DVR to the DVD

I have turned off the DVR

Any other suggestions?

Ideally, if your television provides a line audio output (RCA jacks) it would be best to connect base unit to them as the output would follow whatever device you watching.

I'm not sure why it is not working with the DVD player directly though - maybe a menu setting in the setup. What is the make and model number of the DVD player?

oh well you have every type of connection on there you could get and you only need ONE! IF you have an HDMI cable that goes from your TV to the DVR player that is it that is all you need disconnect all those other cables! the HDMI is video and audio all in one cable that is the advanatage of HDMI one cable and the highest quality. The other options are only to be used if you are using devices that do not use HDMI. So plug the HDMI cable to either the DVR or the DVD depending on which one you want to use, then use the the red and white RCA jacks on the tv (it does not matter if there is a yellow one beside it that yellow is for video not audio so you will use the red and white only) plug your headphones red and white male cords in to those red and white female out jacks on the tv. That is all! leave all other cords out of the equation. As long as all of your devices that you want to connect to the tv have HDMI use that. IF your tv did not have HDMI then you would use the 3 colored ones yellow white and red that carries video on yellow and right and left audio on the red and white. Ok try that just the HDMI cable and your head phones. BE sure that the source input on the tv is set to HDMI if that is what you will be plugging the DVR or DVD into, if the source input is not selected on the tv you will not be getting the signal. This statement right here is very baffling -a 3-prong (yellow, red & white) from the TV (video out) to the three middle (audio out) jacks on the DVR. you state you are going from tv out to DVR out you can not go from out to out there has to be an IN for anything to work. But you do not need those cables so remove them completely from the equation. HDMI out from DVR to HDMI cable IN on the tv period. Headphones base unit red and white male plugs into the TV red and white female audio out jacks. Period

OK. I am trying to picture your setup. I am assuming you have one Dish antenna feeding 4 HD Direct boxes, is that right? I thought that the Direct TV required one LNA/LNB per box. Is there a TIVO in this mix at all? When you say an HD box, are we talking about a Direct TV receiver? I was trying to draw a block diagram of your setup to get a better understanding of what it is you have in your setup. Set me straight here.

You either have to change the input select on the dvd recorder to s-video (and you may find there is a set of audio inputs separate for the s-video) or you may have to enable the s-video output on the laptop - there may be a control panel or something in your settings for that. Your HP handbook should tell you how. Good luck with it.

Insignia is made in china, I wouldnt recommend it. They and several of the other chinese brands are hit/miss on the quality level. I would recommend Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, or Panasonic. I have linked a panasonic on ebay (I bought the same one from this seller) that is a pretty good deal, orignal MSRP was $599. Actually, I just happen to have the same DVD recorder/player (under the Costco model number) in one of our rooms. So, I just double checked and confirmed that the analog R/L audio is still available when using the HDMI output.

The audio OUTPUT is the second set of of red/white connectors when viewing the back of the DVD player (from left to right). Make sure you have the proper connection.

Again though, does your television have line level audio output connections? Do you have the make/model number of the television?

The TV is Panasonic mode4l TC-P42C1.

I have only one set of connectors, they are the black, red and yellow ones to the first outlet.

I have no idea what line level audio output connections are.

Unfortunately, your Panasonic TV does not have an analog audio - only digital.

When looking at the back of your Toshiba DVD player, the first set of jacks are video/audio INPUT. The next set of jacks are video/audio OUTPUT, which is what you want to connect the input of the headphone base to. They are labeled "audio output" and "L/R" which are the white/red colored jacks.

Yosimite, I tried those jacks, still nothing. Since I don't have analog will it not work? I think I will call Sennheiser tomorrow to see if they can help. Thanks though!

It is fixed! A guy on the computer forum walked me through several scenarios and we found the one that works!

which one is best LED TV to buy? many electronic show rooms are suggesting samsung is best. It has many features compared to sony and panasonic, LG. clarity of picture wise I feel sony looks good, but I heard it doesn't support many formats, devices like blue-ray etc.

I am confused. Could someone suggest which one is best one to buy?
