Best birthday gift ever!

My birthday was Dec 23. My son and his little family gave me several frozen rotisserie chicken carcasses and a frozen ham bone, all wrapped up pretty in aluminum foil, gorgeous ribbons and bows!

I always tease them about wasting perfectly good chicken carcasses (actually, it makes me mad, but I don't tell them that), but I was pretty surprised and delighted that they were stockpiling things for me! What fun it was, and what a good pot of split pea soup I made today!

LOVE a good ham bone! Almost need a coin toss to decide whether it'll end up as split pea or bean soup... both "dump" recipes I learned from my grandmother.

As for chicken carcasses... I just CANNOT toss bones without making stock, even if it only ends up being a few pints. My sister calls it "chicken-ade"!! I like using the FREE stock when cooking rice, polenta/grits, etc. instead of plain water.

Happy Birthday, Karen! Dirt is a great present. My DH brought home several free pallets and we built a two bin compost area together as my anniversary present. I love it and love him! He doesn't much care for gardening but understands that I like it alot. It's great that he will help me with the two person tasks.

Another great thing is that I brought my 1984 Kodak Instamatic camera with me. When I left Lewis it was the end of the semester and all the faculty were gone. I never got pictures of anyone. But i took LOTS of photos at the party. Can't wait to get the film developed! SamKaren your resident DJ

Georgysmom, we did think of Marki after the Hallmark suggestion. :) I do tend to prefer names that end in a "ee" sound. I feel like they respond better or it rolls off the tongue more smoothly. She's a very, very chill little girl. I usually like to see their personality a bit before pick out a name. Yesterday I had her and the mom in the barn in the morning and set down two bins of hay for the mom. The baby went and laid down around the far bin where the mom couldn't see her. Butter was SCREAMING for her baby and the baby just laid their quiet. I kept repeating to Butter that the baby was right there, but she didn't get my words and pointing gesture. Finally fed up of her freaking out I went into the pen, picked up the bin and set it on the other side of the baby. LOL If that wasn't bad enough, I let the two of them outside with the rest of the crew late afternoon. My husband was bringing them in and Butter once again starts freaking out and screaming over and over again for her baby. The baby was right behind her and didn't make a peep. Haha This darn girl is already torturing her mother.

Sunshine, I think that you should laugh and rejoice with Sherrmann. I'd call this a gift of love. Her son and DIL put a lot of thought and love into this gift and it was obvious from Sherrmann's post that it was a gift that she really appreciated. The best kind of gift.

Sherrmann, enjoy your split pea soup and all that beautiful rich chicken broth yet to come.

I love it!! Your family knew what you REALLY wanted, which is what birthdays are all about. I'm sure they will benefit from your gifts as well. LOL

Reminds me of the time my DH got me a pile of SH** for my birthday.......
Really. 6 yards of compost delivered!
It was awesome!

I love that! What great presents and so cool that they wrapped them so nice too. Very fun. They got to poke a bit of fun and you got what you wanted!! Let's hope your reaction convinces them to save bones for you in the future. Win, win. Smiles.

Much better than a gift card! Lucky you and as JASDIP says, only here would this be embraced and rejoiced.

I really would be tickled if my DD gave something like that; she probably thinks of me as a buzzard and would find it disgusting.
