Copy catting twix ice cream bars

Has anyone made copy cat Twix ice cream bars?I am addicted to these!
I have not found a recipe for them-just the candy bars, which I do not care for.

Ohhhhh-the little 'crunchy' pieces-possibly nugget? I think that is what has its claws in me...

Just wondering if this would work..... Take a small (Fun Size?) Twix bar, freeze it, crush it, and serve as a topping, on ice cream. -Grainlady

I cannot have gluten. I have become very allergic, so this is not possible-good idea, though!
I have to come up with a 'copy cat' recipe that I can make...

Amanzed, I don't know about pore size...that could very well be true. I did a couple of experiments with water absorption of Napa vs. perlite (I guess that should be aDsorption?) and the Napa took up about twice as much water as Perlite, either pure Napa or mixed 50/50 with soil. I didn't try pumice. I'm guessing that one important factor is how long the substrate is exposed to water. I always water my plants twice, so the soil is thoroughly saturated. Since many of my plants are shrubby Euphorbias, more from arid to semi-arid forests rather than anything resembling desert conditions, my guess is that they enjoy the slow release of moisture. I get where you're going with the "systemic" thing, but I wash the 8822 thoroughly. Having said that, other than some mealy bugs before I started using 8822, I've never had any insect pests on my Euphorbias. That's the least of my worries :) -R

Well, I learned something in the preview of Jeni's book on Amazon (and ordered the book to thank her): Like the Sicilian gelato, she uses starch to stabilize the frozen yoghurt. I have tapioca starch! I'm going to try that. The book also has the best frozen yoghurt instructions I've seen. They're for a more commercial grade of frozen yoghurt, but might be worth the trouble if I want to make a serious effort for a lot of company. Being able to make ahead and store in the freezer would be a boon. Unlike Jeni, I'm trying to reduce the richness of the dessert, rather than boost it, and her ice cream flavors sound a bit muddy for me, but the depth she goes into on techniques for storing and serving should be very useful.

Wow, Jenn thought I was Sol ! What a nice compliment to meeeee!!! Here's the Lavender Honey Ice Cream recipe, which I found on line! David Lebovitz' Honey Lavender Ice Cream 1/2 cup honey 1/4 cup fresh lavender flowers 1 1/2 cups whole milk (Susans note: I used half & half) 1/4 cup sugar pinch salt 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 5 large eggs (you will only use the yolks) Âroom temp Sooz's Notes: 2 T vodka (80 proof) to keep the ice cream from becoming icy A bit of gel food coloring to make it look lavender (or whatever color you want) Instructions: Pull the lavender flowers off the stems & measure out the flowers. Heat honey with Â½ lavender, just until bubbles start to form in the honey (Sooz's note: I used the microwave). Remove from the heat, and let sit an hour or so to extract some of that tasty lavender flavor. It may look kinda funny, but it's okay. Put the cream in a bowl. Rewarm the honey a bit to make it runny and pour it through a sieve into the cream. Squish those lavender flowers with the back of a spoon to get out as much flavor as possible. Add 2 T vodka to this bowl. Meanwhile, warm the milk, sugar and salt until the sugar and salt dissolve, and the milk is hot. Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites, and beat the egg yolks into a yellow foamy looking foam. Add the warm milk to the yolks, a tiny little bit at a time, mixing constantly. You have to add the milk slooooowly especially at the beginning. Put the egg yolk mix back on the stove, and heat, stirring constantly over medium-low heat. Use a thermometer for this next part, as it will keep you from curdling the custard base. Heat to 175Â°F. Never stop stirring. At 175Â°F, the custard should have thickened nicely, shouldn't have curdled, and will be ready for the next step. Immediately pour this through a sieve (just in case there are any cooked egg bits in your custard), pour the hot custard over the lavender flowers (which are in the sieve anyway) and into the cool cream. Mix gently, and add the remainder of the lavender. Sooz's Notes: I used violet "gel" coloring and added it with the remainder of the lavender. If you add too little food coloring, it will look a sickly grayish color. Keep adding the gel coloring until you get what color you want. I used the end of a toothpick to add the color, then stirred with a spoon. Cool in the fridge overnight. Sieve out the fresh lavender, and run the mixture through your ice cream maker, using the directions for your machine (make sure you froze the freeze-y canister for at least 24 hours). Then, you slowly pour in the sieved ice cream mix into a the machine while the beater is stirring on low. If you pour in the mixture and then turn on the machine, it may cause a problem as the paddle may not be able to move. Churn for 25-ish minutes. Scoop into a cold container, and leave in the freezer overnight to finish hardening it. Enjoy! Here's the link for the recipe to the Amaretto Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream. Here's an interesting one that I haven't yet tried, but we almost finished up the chocolate sorbet tonight, so I think this one might be up very soon! I found the main ingredient up in the Sonoma area (wine country) in Northern CA. This brand has a sweet, lovely taste. If you can't find it in your town, they do ship! They're a small family company too. Verjus Mint Sorbet Verjus is the tart, unfermented juice of unripe wine grapes. Verjus (pronounced Vair-Zhoo) literally means "green juice." It is an elegant and delicate alternative to both vinegar and lemon juice in cook. Because this sorbet is made from verjus, it goes well with wine. Check out Ice Cream, Sorbet, Granita, & Gelato Recipes for more recipe ideas. ________________________________________ 1 cup sugar 2 cups water 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves 1 1/2 cups Verjus* 2 tablespoons vodka * Verjus is found in specialty or wine stores. To learn more about Verjus, check out my web page HERE. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, and mint leaves. Stir until mixture comes to a boil and sugar is dissolved; reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; place a fine strainer over a large bowl and pour syrup mixture through (straining out the mint leaves). Add verjus and vodka to the strained syrup mixture; stir until thoroughly blended. Let mixture cool to room temperature. NOTE: The vodka (or any other type of alcohol) is the secret to a soft sorbet. Alcohol itself does not freeze and adding a little bit keeps the sorbet from doing the same. Vodka is excellent to use because it doesn't affect the taste. Ice Cream Maker - Transfer mixture to ice cream maker, process according to manufacturer's instructions. Freezer Method - Pour into container, cover, and place mixture in the freezer. When it is semi-solid, mash it up with a fork and refreeze again. When frozen, place in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Cover and refreeze until serving time. You never mentioned gluten-intolerance in your original post, and my crystal ball is in the shop for repairs so I didn't realize the food challenge.

Did you know that wheat and wheat-based ingredients have been shown to increase addiction to foods? That's why wheat and wheat products are added to things as unlikely as Twizzlers.

Even more addictive are sugar and wheat together. Wonder if that has anything to do with the "addiction" to Twix Ice Cream Bars since they contain both. If you are gluten-intolerant, how can you be eating the bars? Better read the label. The cookie pieces contain wheat flour.

I did not say anything about eating them in the last several years-only the great WANT TO EAT THEM!
It is none of your business why I asked if anyone had a copy cat recipe.

1. You never mentioned gluten intolerance. If I would have know that, I would NEVER have given you my first suggestion because I know there is wheat in TWIX products.

2. By your original post, it would be easier to extrapolate you currently enjoy eating Twix Ice Cream Bars (hence the "addiction" - look up the meaning - it's not something you last ate several years ago) and just want a less expensive way to make them at home than to understand you are gluten-intolerant and want a gluten-free substitute. That takes any potential answers to a different level. Too bad you only contributed that information AFTER the fact, not as a key point.

Now go back and look at your original post and see it from my perspective.

Unfortunately I read your first post as Grainlady did and made the same assumptions. Just not enough info to think anything else. I now have the benefit of the supporting info that is important to go in the right direction. No need to be upset as it was a miscommunication and if you leave out the gluten part then even if somebody has a substitute recipe it may contain gluten so won't help you anyways.

Grainlady is very knowledgeable about what is in different things and have given me some very valuable advice when it comes to making things when dealing with my daughters dairy protein allergy.

I've never had the twix ones, but love the snickers ones.

What do you use as crackers/cookie/wafer substitute for gluten free? Could you use that (assuming you have any) add caramel and chocolate on top of regular ice-cream instead?

I read the post as grainlady did. I just thought you wanted a copy cat recipe without all the added over-processed ingredients. Something easily made at home with good ingredients.
Similar taste and texture, as a treat. But i had nothing to add since i have no idea what candy bar ice cream tastes like.
It really was not clear you wanted wheat-free.
