That is kind of odd. I like catsup with my fries. I can't stand it when people dip into other stuff like ranch dressing. Although.. chocolate pretzels are pretty tasty so I guess a chocolate covered fry might not be too bad.

Something strange? I donÂt know if I do anything strange - not strange to be anyway. Maybe this: three staples in my house are mayo, sour cream and ketchup. Anything (except ice cream) tastes better with one of those things.

Expensive ice cream is a rip-off just like bottled water. Give me filtered water and store brand ice cream and I be very, very happy. IÂve even discovered the merits of "whipped topping" instead of real whipped cream. Yummmmmmmmmmm

My ULTIMATE fav is Daquiri Ice from Baskin Robbins. I can eat a pint (okay..a QUART) of that stuff and not blink.

I refuse to buy mayo because I hate the stuff. I do have to have name brand catsup, macaroni and cheese, and sour cream. The rest of everything I don't mind buying generic. Buying bottled water is stupid. (I guess I think so because we have really great tap water that is practically free.)

I hope that all of you guys have a Braum's near. They are sinful. Try Capuccino Chunky Chocolate.

Ice cream? I don't eat it as long as frozen custard is available. And I rarely eat that.

Something strange....Any links I can think of are potentially offensive to someone and we know that offending someone is the absolute worst thing that one can do.

Easy question. My son (12) makes mango ice cream - from scratch with cream from the dairy down the road and eggs from his chickens, and a fresh mango. Delicious, worth spending your calorie alottment on :-D

We once visited a master icecream maker in the French alps who had an extensive menu including many "herbal" flavors like thyme and marjoram. I was particularly fond of the lavender and have made it myself since. That also turned out to be good "surprise" flavor for a batch of truffles I made a few years later.

We have a dairy on Vancouver Island called Island Farms. They make a fabulous ice cream -- Ginger. It is really weird because when you eat it of course it's cold, but your mouth says hot. I haven't bought it for a while because I eat too much, but I'm gonna go get some today.

I tried going to the food forums off of the garden web list but nobody cooks from scratch on those forums. A lot of the recipes were based on "cream of" canned soups and everyone there was very impressed by each new incarnation or use for cream of mushroom soup. Not my kind of food or cooking.

One site I like for recipes is Epicurious.com. They have all of the gourmet magazine and bon apetit and other conde nast publication recipes archived. The only thing that makes me laugh is that they let people rate the recipes after they make them. You often see people make 4 or 5 changes to a recipe and then complain that the recipe was just awful!

I've had green tea ice cream in sushi places and tried to find it in the supermarket. I found green tea ice cream made with soy milk and it was vile.

Hm, I don't know if you can train a kid to want to cook gourmet. But, he likes sweet stuff, so he'll make the things he likes. Ice cream, chicken gravy....no salad or spinach please!

OK now the strange part: has anyone ever tasted the "fox testicle" ice cream ? made in Turkey from the tubers of their native orchid there...species name escapes me.
Supposedly you can amsh up the tubers and the masah can be pulled into a rope long enough to jump rope with.

I like ice cream flavors like coffee, chocolate truffles, white christmas, and banana foster. Some strange ice creams I have seen are: Ben & Jerry's Caramel Sultra (Caramel ice cream, caramel in the middle, and white chocolate with chocolate chips), Bailey's Irish Cream, Mayan Chocolate (Dutch chocolate, fudge swirls, and cinnamon), and eggnog. I also saw some odd non-ice cream related foods at a local shopping center: spinach and asiago cheese sausage and apple and chicken sausage. I'm a vegetarian but if I wasn't one, I wouldn't try those flavors. My family thinks some of my food ideas are a little strange: cut carrot slices on saltine crackers (from the can), ketchup mashed potatoes (it does taster good if you can get pass the red mashed potatoes), and four to five teaspoons of sugar in my coffee.

I'm with mrbreez, cookies & cream all the way...
but I want to try saffron ice cream (from a GW food forum) someday...

I went to Sam's last week & broke down & got a hotdog & soda ($1.50), sat down to eat it & a guy sat down next to me with the same snack, only he put MAYO on his hotdog & nothing else! I was mortified! It reminded me of those who dip fries in mayo (like the French).

That sounds kind of good. I'm a mayo freak - just love the stuff. I would probably do both ketchup and mayo though.

My family and I were in Parma, Italy (one of the gastronomic capitals of the world, and believe me, we went to town!) last summer, and I had violet gelato. That's right, violet. Oh. My. Frickin'. God. It was like eating essence of flowers. I can still taste it! That being said, my favorite flavor may be Italian hazelnut (nocciola), and to all who say there's no difference between store-brand and higher end, them's fightin' words. In summer, my favorite's peach.

Lest you now think I'm a total food snob (OK, I actually AM a total food snob, but I go lowbrow too: cheez doodles, street hot dogs, etc.), the something strange is, during college I used to stash my leftover pizza in the box, on the floor underneath my bed. That cold linoleum kept it chilled, nobody with the late nite munchies could steal it, and it was right there for breakfast in the morning!

Extra bonus strange: my Dad, whose interest in experimental cooking predated fusion cuisine and all that, used to put grapefruit peel in the marinara sauce. No, it did not taste good.

You know...Costco frozen chocolate lowfat yoghurt tasts very similar to Culver's custard. I know I sound like a Blasphemer! But it's true!!! Culver's is hands down awesome.

Became a coffee ice cream junkie at a very early age, mainly because it would be all that was left in the freezer with 2 other sibs around ! My taste has evolved & I only go for Haagen-Dazs coffee. Tried their green tea the other day . . . enh !

Strange ? I had a chocolate point siamese cat (George) that used to lick the insides of my shoes ! And the more fragrant the more he licked !! He also liked to eat peas !! Used to chase them across the floor as I threw them, catch & then eat them ! Aren't cats GREAT !!
